EO 13223 and you

Recommended Posts

Most Officers can be recalled to Active Duty within a few years of separation regardless of this EO. All retired Officers can be recalled to Active Duty whenever they are needed, unless they have medical issues or are way to old.

This EO is quite fluffy if you ask me. Upside is that most of the AF pilots whom would be recalled already have seniority numbers at major airlines which allows them to continue climbing the seniority ladder to Valhalla even if they get recalled for a few years.

Look passed the initial statement of purpose. This opens the door to bring back the Army pilots as well. With the shortage of Apache drivers, and the mass exodus of late from all airframes, this could easily become the answer short term for the Army.

We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to three years," Navy Cdr. Gary Ross, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

But the executive order itself is not specific to the Air Force, and could conceivably be used in the future to call up more officers and in other branches.

Historically, you're probably going to see a stop loss for specified MOSs first, then progressing to a recall to AD.

The bonus ALARAC was just the first attempt at stopping the hemorrhage of aviators. The Army is usually the most draconian of the services when it comes to preserving the force. The bonus was the good cop, bad cop is coming, guaranteed if FY18 numbers don't reflect a change in the attrition trend.

Again, I don't see the point of this EO. Unless it is just a "delegation of powers" from the CiC/ SECDEF to the corresponding branch Secretaries. I was under the assumption all Commissioned Officers can be recalled to active regardless of their occupation? As in, your Commission doesn't expire on retirement or separation (unless ya know, you get caught committing adultery with your stick buddy and the Army strips it from you  )....

FY18 wont get better. Nothing can compete with the pay and lifestyle of major airlines, and for the first time, Army helo pilots are even being paid to train FW. Its going to get colorful. My REFRAD packet was approved....

You are correct, but Bush signed an EO 13223 that stated they wouldnt do this. Trump reversed that.
