New Sift Component?

Recommended Posts

Thought I was going to take the Sift finally this morning but due to system problems, this didnt happen.

While I was waiting, the proctor got the room ready anyway, in hopes it would work, and I saw the desk had a joystick element mounted through a hole in the table. Is there now a flight sim integrated in the test or something? Never saw this mentioned anywhere.

I took the SIFT ~3 weeks ago. There was a computer with a joystick mounted to in the room but I did not have to use this for SIFT. I believe this is used for Air Force candidates taking the TBAS.

Hey,

I take the SIFT this Wednesday and was just curious if there are any tricks/tips? I have studied the FAA Rotorcraft handbook and the SIFT study guide i bought off Amazon. Lots of practice tests online and been doing pretty good. Should I be worrying much?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Sounds like you did all the right things. I'd brush up on Math -- I got a 75 but I probably could have squeezed a few more points out had I not forgotten what logs were. Make sure you are comfortable with all the math concepts in the study guide, do some algebra, logs, exponents etc practice. Likewise with physical concepts.

Also, there were some fully accessible online ASTB practice tests I took prior to that were helpful. Know little things like slip vs skid, etc.

Honestly if you studied and aren't stupid you'll probably do fine.

Hi guys,

Ive been reading the FAA helicopter flying handbook, and the FAA pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge. This is the only two Ive been reading. Im not really doing math since Im crrently taking a math college class right now. Anything else you guys suggest? Any good sites I can go to for practice tests? Thank you.

Theres a practice SIFT study guide I bought off of amazon that had some practice questions. I only used it to familiarize myself with some of the more unique aspects to the test. For example choosing the correct orientation of an aircraft when viewed from the perspective of the cockpit. Managed to get a 66 on the SIFT. My highest level of education is a GED, if I can do it youll have no problem.

The FAA Rotary Flying Handbook is a really good study source. It's best to expand to as many resources as you can instead of just powering through one study guide.

Theres an app on the play store called Maximize the SIFT that is free and covers all 7 sections including almost all terms in the Rotary Handbook
