Cod
Scenario: Your rich uncle Leroy cashed in one of his stocks and wants to give you $15,000. He says, "Use this to advance your career." You are presently a sub-1000 hour helicopter pilot. What do you spend it on? Option A: Bell Helicopter factory course (B206 or B407.)Option B: A good long-line training course.Option C: Something else? Discuss.
LionHeart
Use it to pay off debt. Are you hypothetically working as a pilot at this time (CFI)?
Hand_Grenade_Pilot
Option C No potential employer cares about 15 hours of turbine or sling time. If you have less than 100 hours of night time, do night XC timebuilding in the cheapest aircraft you can find (even if its fixed wing). Use some of the money for an ATP checkride. Use the rest for traveling to hand out resumes in person and paying off debt.
takefootoff
All above posts are sound advice...but that's not what you wanna hear, is it? You wanna do big things, make big moves, have big fun? An expensive factory course and maybe some paid ferry time in the same type acft might give you a fighting chance for that first turbine job, once you get over 1k hrs PIC. Some employers might see that as good initiative. Timing is everything tho, you'd want all of that to take place as close in date as possible to that job application or heli-expo or whatever you're considering. Hours are hours, get them hours in before you start making moves. If I had 15k I'd buy a professional drone and start a business...way better chance of paying the bills with one of those things.
Little Bird
I'm presuming you're in the US? If you're in Australia however, paying for your first turbine or sling rating is somewhat still the norm. But if you're in the US, don't pay for turbine or sling time. Either put it towards debt or go and build some night or hood time to make sure you get to those minimums required for EMS work, if that's where you're wanting to go. Maybe get a ASEL add-on to build that time and give yourself a fixed wing option if that floats your boat.
Nearly Retired
Take some of the money and go to truck-driving school. Invest the other $10,000 in stocks.
