LJS1993
Okay what's the deal with the t-bar cyclic on some helicopters? Is there a legitimate functional reason for them as such?
overtorque
Cheaper, less parts to make it.Safer, less linkages to snag.Easier to get in and out. It's part of the Robinson design tenants. Only flaw is that they just look ugly.

pilotarix
Robinson may have invented the horizontal tiltable handle (what a great accomplishment), the central control stick had been used in fixed wing aircraft far before before he build his first helicopter, so this part he likely only copied.
