Army Av - Culture, A/C info

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I know I might come off as a douche for asking this question but I am pretty curious here.

I understand most pilots in the Army aren't assigned the same aircraft to fly every time but I am wondering if the Army stencils pilot's and crew chief's names on their aircraft?

And if not, is this just another one of the Army Aviation's quirks kinda like not wearing flight suits and not getting a callsign for doing something embarrassing in flight school?

I swear I am not trolling. I am just trying to get a feel for the culture here and why or why not the Army does things.

Thanks

Names: some Battalions allow it, some Companies do it. No standard across the board.

Flight suits: we don’t wear them because the Army took them away.

Callsigns: personal callsigns are generally derived by Company name and duty position and not the vanity callsigns the Air Force uses. Callsigns to ATC are aircraft tail numbers.

This completely depends on your unit, down to the company level. I have seen call signs but they rarely stick. I have seen names on aircraft, but there's not much to it. It wasn't earned or the result of anything other than how many pilots we had in the company.

Bottom line, the Army doesn't treat us like pilots, so unless we're actively preparing for or conducting a flight, we don't even act like pilots

This couldn't be more truthful. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm actually a 92Y now.
