I read through the Army Commisoned to Warrant Officer thread and just wanted to ask if anyone knew the process for an inter service transfer? I am an O3 in the USMC on the November 2018 WOSB applying to be an Army Warrant.

Does it work the same way i.e. report to Rucker as a WO1 and soon there after automatically pick up CW2?

Trying not to put the cart before the horse here as I still need to get through the board but just curious.

The DoDIs that cover ISTs stipulate that you'll transfer in your current grade. I'd imagine the route you'd want is to apply for WOFT and then, ideally get a conditional release signed, or submit for an unqualified resignation.

I told my mom I wanted to be a pilot when I grew up.  She told me I couldn't do both.

Conditional release from the USMC (via DD 368) is your big one. You work through the in-service recruiters on that one, they fill out their portion and you work with your functional/manpower/personnel/x1 to get the signature/approval.

I don't think you pick up CW2 automatically, but you'd apply through USAREC after training and qual'd and formally document your commissioned time to get that grade.

Are you a qual'd pilot/aviator in the USMC already?

Already have the DD368 package complete and submitted for consideration on the November board, I am not an aviator now but am in an aviation C2 MOS.

That's interesting, because I've always understood sister service commissioned officers applying can only apply once a year for the board and that is only in January. Is this a new thing?

You applied in-service recruiter or through a regular recruiter?

I applied through a regular Army recruiter. 2 separate ones actually, my first one had no idea how to handle a Reserve Marine going to AD Warrant. And my second one has never done it before but at least had the process. Its been a full year and the Army made me go back to MEPS but Im being told my package is going in front of the November Board.

I am pretty sure you would attend Army Basic training still being prior service   ..then attend WOCS. (i do not know this to be 100% accurate)

If this is indeed the case- I am curious as to what Enlisted rank you would be given going from a Reserve Commissioned into Enlisted..?

Typically USMC and SOF side of the Air Force dont attend basic training for Entering the Army. Pretty sure they would go through WOCS directly and get their basic clothing issue at Rucker.

Non-aviation branch Army officers skip WOCS and go straight to WOBC when changing over to be a warrant. They don’t need to attend an officer producing course because they’re already an officer. It would be pretty ridiculous to make a Marine officer attend WOCS like a new entry candidate.

FWIW..Navy aviator to Army guard aviator..paperwork only. No WOCS, boot camp, WOBC, etc..O-4 reservist directly to CW2. UH-60 AQC was required, despite 1400 hrs in a Seahawk. That was in 2007.

Well.... I’m being told by a Warrant Officer recruiter that there is no credit for inter-service OCS, that if selected I will have to go through WOCS with “safe pay” then once I graduate as a WO1 I can apply for a grade determination and if approved I will get promoted to CW2.

With that said I’m still not sure that’s the correct answer as the FAQ section on the USAREC Warrant Officer Information Site says about sister service officer applicants “.......Per DoDFMR, Vol 7A, Chapter 1, paragraph 01 0303- Commissioned Officers transitioning to Warrant Officer will receive the appropriate Warrant Officer pay grade. You are NOT eligible for “safe pay”...........”

Seems like no one knows what do do with me haha, so I’m going to keep digging.

At my FedRec board for SC Guard, there was a former USMC CPT who was joining a Local ADA unit in SC.  He had no expectations to go back to OCS and started immediately began drilling at the unit (my buddy who is a Major there told me he started because I texted him during my wait time at the board).....now all this is Guard and not active, so I cannot speak to that side.  Just giving my experience with what I have had contact with.

I don't think Officer to Warrant will qualify. The save pay intent usually is for going from a higher salary enlisted grade to Officer or Warrant grades. The recruiter may be universally thinking it would apply the other way around.

Safe Pay will not apply, you are choosing to get demoted essentially, a promotion, with a pay cut, (senior E7 to W1) would be eligible for safe pay until the WO pay catches up.
You will not be required to go to WOCS, or Basic Training. Good luck Devil.

What Creep said. It is called SAVE pay and it is very SPECIFICALLY not for a commissioned guy / gal that either goes enlisted or warrant, but for the example Creep gave (enlisted to warrant / commissioned or warrant to commissioned). When I say specifically, it is USC/Title 37/Chapter 17 / 907

If you ever see it, put a pay inquiry in and don't spend it (because DFAS will eventually figure it out).
