March Board 2019

Recommended Posts

I have a question about the APFT for the street to seat. My recruiter told me that I am not required to do the full PT test: 2 min pu, 2 min su, 2 mile run. He said I would have to do some deadlifts, standing jump, ball toss, and a run.

When I was USAREC website, it said I needed DA form 705, which is the full PT test.

My question is, will I need to do the regular PT test?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you need the regular PT test. Behind LORs and essay, the APFT score is (allegedly) one of the most important parts of your packet in determining selection.

Normal enlistment does not require a full PT test as he said, but the WOFT packet does, and as Seminole mentioned, is allegedly one of the more important factors in the packet.

I was NS for the January board. I'm assuming that I was not fully qualified, because my flight physical just recently got approved last week. Here's hoping that the approved flight physical and some other updates improve my chances.

Civilian

Age: 27

GT: 131

SIFT: 57

APFT: 287 (working to get those last 13 situps and a 300 for March)

Education: Associate Degree 2.6 GPA

LOR: CW5,two Ret. Army 0-6, Ret. Navy 0-4

Flight: 15.1 hours with one solo

Flight Physical: Stamped

Revised my personal essay and updated my resume.

More motivated than ever and praying that I get picked up this time. Good luck to everyone!

SIFT: 63

APFT: 26?

Education: B.S in Engineering (Biotech) GPA 3.4 , B.S. in Project Management GPA 4.0

Flight: 0

Flight Physical: No waivers

Dont you mean Age: 3?

Jokes aside congrats on getting squared away. Welcome to the dark side (I plan on killing the other March board thread)

Stats? ^ We are a good ways out Id say you have a solid amount of time for approval.

You wisecracker! But thank you. Also, is it March yet?

The marine who wrote my LOR is a specimen of a human, a real science experiment. I asked him to put me into a coma and wake me up in March.

He unfortunately declined :(

It seems I'm getting mixed information.

My recruiter is telling me the packet deadline is March 4th. Is that accurate? Because on the website it's telling me that the UPDATES deadline is March 4th and the packet deadline was January 18th

Recruiter is scheduling my SIFT for next week because he wants me to have my packet in by March 4th (mind you I just started gathering LOR's, but haven't done my flight physical, or AFPT). Don't want to rush this if I don't have to.

Civilian Applicant

Age: 23

GT: 123

SIFT: Next Thursday

AFPT: Not scheduled

Education: B.A. - 3.9 GPA

LOR: In progress of gathering (Federal Probation Officer I interned for), (CW4 who wants to see my AFPT before he agrees to interview me), and O3 (Retired) USMC Aviator (who is also my Uncle, so this might not fly as I hear they don't want family references).

Flight Physical: Scheduling

Civilians can submit their packets pretty late and still make the board. I submitted mine a week before the board and had no issues.

Now if you don't have your SIFT or flight physical done yet I don't see you making the March board in time. Typically you have to do 2 separate appointments for your flight physical which can take some time to schedule. But hey, you never know.

Just go through the process and it will be done when it's done.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not a whole lot of replies for this board. I feel like the past few months topics have been much more active.

I have a theory that dropping selection rates are going to make for lower applicant numbers, possibly resulting in a quieter forum. Civilian applicant numbers followed this trend.

FQ-S/Total applicants

Sept: 25/51

Nov: 20/48

Jan: 20/39

But in reality who knows. The wait for March is agonizing.

Yeah I does feel like forever ago since I submitted my packet. I only submitted it a week before the deadline too.

Thankfully March starts next week. I feel like the anticipation only gets worse the closer we get to the board date.

first time civilian applicant here

AGE: 29

ASVAB GT: 132

SIFT: 55

APFT: (holding out on this one til the last minute. currently at 262)

EDUCATION: professional degree - Juris Doctor and undergraduate degree - BSmgt

FLIGHT: 4.5 hrs (cessna 152)

- i've done skydiving does that help???

LORS: CW4 (ret.) USN; CW3 (ret.) USN; Special Agent (ret.) USAF-OSI; Civilian boss;

- waiting on an LOR from a CW4 in the program

PHYSICAL: Stamped and Approved

- this is funny i called the helpdesk and they said that its been stamped and up on the system. but my recruiter can't find it on his computer. what does this mean???

WAIVERS: None needed

currently what's holding me back from submitting my packet is getting a copy of my stamped medical. I called the helpdesk (aeromedical activity office, fort rucker) and they said its fully qualified and it's been stamped. My recruiter said he can't find it though on his computer. How long will it take to reflect on his computer?

hoping to catch the march board

When I received my flight physical I had to contact the flight nurse who conducted my EKG and get her to send me a copy of it. From there I sent the stamped cover sheet to my recruiter.

This might not be the proper way to do it, but it worked for me.

You might call help desk, see if you can get a point of contact and have them send it to you. HIPAA probably complicates things some but you are so close to a complete packet!

thanks! i just got a copy of my physical. and I just interviewed with the company commander. he gave me a go ahead and said i'd be a good fit. however, there is this thing called the MFR commander's recommendation on the packet checklist, and he forgot to sign it.

the recruiters are now arguing if it is even needed. apparently, a few of the recruiters recently sent ocs and woft candidates through without the MFR commander's recommendation...

help. March is just around the corner

Civilian, first time applicant here. I'm probably going to drop in May, but figured I should start really tracking these now. I've been working on this since September but biggest hiccup is getting two small tattoos removed (one on each hand). My right hand is finally starting to be about gone but my left is being stubborn (just a small triangle outline). I have my flight physical and SIFT next week, and once those are good my recruiter is going to submit a Tattoo ETP for my left hand, so hopefully I'll be all set for May.

I'm currently a High school math teacher, and a park ranger on a mountain during the summer where I do law enforcement and first response. I'm also on the local Search and Rescue team and am finishing up my EMT next month. I've done a lot of medevacs and trauma missions, and would love to fly Blackhawks for medevacs.

No Army family history, but my dad and his dad were Air Force O-4s who flew F16s, and my mom's dad was an Air Force E-9 fixed wing mechanic.

Age:29

ASVAB/GT: 98/132

Education: MS in Organizational Leadership, BS in Business Administration, AS in General Studies, EMT(will have before I submit packet)

SIFT: next week

Flight Physical: next week

LORs: Air Force O-8 who flew with my dad back in the day and has known me since I was born, Navy O-5(ret.) Search and Rescue pilot on my SAR team, W-4(ret.) I've known for 20 years, and an Air Force 0-6 (ret. But still contracting for AFA) civil engineer I've known since I was born (my best friend's dad).

Waivers: only one that might be needed is Tattoo ETP for my left hand unless something weird comes up with my physical. I'll submit it after next week's MEPS

My biggest questions I guess are: I see a lot of moral waivers getting selected, anyone ever heard of a tattoo one getting selected? I'd still finish getting it removed and it should be gone before I ship to basic but.. Also, would it be super important to have a current W-5 LOR? I feel like mine are pretty solid but I don't have an Army pilot who is currently flying. I met with a unit on Carson recently though and could get one if needed.

Thanks!

Jrok,

I was selected on the January board, and did not have an AD aviator LOR. I had a reitred CW4, and current chief pilot of an LE agency, and a former CW2 who is the Commander of said agencys aviation division. The other LOR were from people whom i worked with and who knew me and my leadership and technical skills.

The information i read regarding LOR's is that letters from those who know you well are far better than a pencil whipped CW4 or 5. Some folks have got great letters by cold calling and knocking on doors, but considering you have 3 military pilots on that list, I would say you dont need the CW5 LOR.

I am no guru, but Im trying to help give back to the forum that helped so much in my packet and selection.

Respectfully,

M250

Jrok,

I was supposed to get an ETP for my sleeve extending a bit past the wristbone. Not sure if they really ever did that. Don't see that being a huge problem but I'm not on the selection board obv.

It was winter during my flight medical and the Flight PA asked about tattoos so I began rattling them off and he was too lazy to write it all down. Didn't purposely hide or show that one in particular. He then said "well, I'm just going to assume MEPS took care of that part" (they didn't). Bottom line, I have no clue if there is an ETP in my file.

M250, thanks for the reply and congrats! I saw your posts on the January board and it seems like we have similar stats so that gives me hope haha. What did you find helped you most on the sift? I've been studying a few different books but only a week away now so crunch time on the most important stuff
