Adriek64
Long story short. went in today for a part 2 physical and out of nowhere my blood pressure came up to 155/85. I have never had any issues and have a VERY clean medical record. Doc wont send the physical to Rucker (guaranteed grounded) until figuring out if it was just an abnormality or I need medications, which he made it seem like it's not a big deal. Has anyone taken blood pressure medications and not get grounded. I still got my upslip for what is worth.
z0na
You have the same resource available to you as your Flight Surgeon. Take a look at the Aeromedical Policy Letter and use CTRL + F. Youll learn very quickly that taking blood pressure medication is NOT a disqualifying factor.

Or you might have "White Coat Syndrome". My BP was 141/72 at my part 1 of my physical. My BP always measures in the mid 130s at doctor's offices, but when I do it at home I'm in the 120s or below. My friend who is physician assistant did my BP as well and it was 121/70. White Coat Syndrome is a mental thing where you get hypertensive when ever getting a medical exam done. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_coat_hypertension

White Coat Syndrome is a mental thing where you get hypertensive when ever getting a medical exam done. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_coat_hypertension When I did my initial flight physical, I was a bit high on the pulse/BP. I suppose it was that "white coat syndrome." The Flight doc just let me sit a while to relax and tested two more times, and it was fine. I've also seen it mentioned that they can put you on a 24 hour BP/Pulse device. But as z0na mentioned, taking BP medicine isn't a dis qualifier. My concern would be that you are taking BP medicine needlessly, and that your high BP was just a product of anxiety. Taking medicine could just end up causing issues on the other side of the blood pressure scale if you don't actual have high blood pressure. . I was freaking out but hopefully it was just a fluke!
mike0331
White coat is super common. Also if you workout a little make sure they use the bigger cuff. If the machine keeps showing high, have a tech do it manually. I get whitecoat all the time for whatever reason. I've been in the same boat with almost the same numbers. klas
Doc had me coming in for 5 straight days... each day BP has been normal! That happened to me, too. Went in for physical, the top number was high, bottom normal. Then they made me wait two more hrs to take 2 more measurements and they were normal. They had me go to private doc - did so 3 different occasions. Each time normal almost low. That is when I had a resting pulse rate of 40 (good old days...). Went back for physical again and same thing happened as 1st - top number high and later numbers normal. They STILL didn't take me. It was only after I relaxed and talked to neighboring recruits did I calm down and have fun were the numbers normal on later tries. But the white coat syndrome got me.
