Flying schools in CA

Recommended Posts

Many good operators in SoCal with most having pretty easy access to anything from congested airspace to remote ops. Do a search on the topic and you'll see a pretty good list from a few years back. Some of the legendary instructors have retired, but their legacy continues. I completed RW training at Helistream at Sa-nn-ta-ah-ah-nah as Peanut would say/ KSNA (technically off airport) or Fullerton/ KFUL. Consistent instructors, good inventory of aircraft (but pretty much Robbies for training), excellent Mx, they provide a lot of recurrent gov training, they're involved with other contract work (Fire, utility), you may have opportunity to join after full training. Also, you'll be getting a lot of confined space training off the bat from a rooftop heliport. Always fun in the beginning having either hangar doors or walls to keep your skills tight with recirculating air. Western Helicopters at Riverside/ KRAL is also legendary. Did some initial training with Bob Spencer years back but finished with Helistream (shorter commute). Do some followup in person and see what might be the best fit.

At SNA I highly recommend you check out Rogue Aviation...they have an excellent pass rate.

My personal observation is that Helistream has moved heavily into Law Enforcement contract training in the last few years and that is their focus.

Unfortunately, they dont provide M1 visa

So, my list so far:

HeliStream

HeliPro

Civic helicopters

Western Helicopters

An update. I hope it’ll be helpful for foreign students.

I am looking for a flight school with accelerated program, I am short on time.

So far my search:

Anthelion: they have accelerated program, but they can’t make visas

California Am Serv: prices are affordable, they make visas, they don’t have accelerated training

HeliStream: everything is good about them! Considering this school, although they don’t have a shorten program

Civic helicopters: Didn’t get info yet.

My list includes about 35 schools in CA, OR but they either don’t issue visas or don’t train foreigners.
