Highway deaths average 30,000 per year. Last year less than 300 died in aviation accidents in the US. That would be 100 times more dangerous to drive a car.

It all depends how you set up the statistics to deliver a set of results that best answers the question of relative safety.

Pohi, I meant flight hours in a career.

I have quite a few friends that flew from Vietnam until recently,

They retired with the following total flight hours, rounded,

17.5k, 18k, 21k, 22k, 23k

I think 20k hours Is a pretty good ballpark number for pilots that sit in the seat for 40 or so years.

Though, it varies a lot based on industry, I know one guy that has 40k. I'm sure in EMS there are guys that retire after 40 years with only about 10k.
