Flightcom headsets

Recommended Posts

I have the Denali passive. I bought them after complaining to a fellow pilot friend about a 'DC clone' I had been wearing causing headaches. He loaned me his Denali headset. They were very comfortable, really light feeling and I don't notice them much. (I am not knocking DCs, I have used them too and found them comfortable). I decided to buy a pair...

The Denali I bought had been on the shelf at an FBO for a while so they had vinyl/foam earcups, which are no longer distributed. After nine months, the earcups delaminated, so I took a digital picture of them with the defect and sent an email to the Flitecom service department. They called me the same day and asked what replacement earcups I would like (3 types). They sent some that are a naugahyde type material (phony leather, but comfortable and more durable than leather) and 1/4" thicker than standard. They arrived 2 days after my call. The new earcups are even more comfortable and great with glasses which I wear occasionally. The foam in them is temperature sensative and becomes very soft after they have been on for a short while. I use the headset in helicopters, twin turboprops, and Learjets (the 24/25 series, the noisy ones) and they do a fairly good job of keeping the noise down for a passive headset. I use them with a liplight when I fly helicopters at night, and with the liplight and glasses they are quite comfortable.

My only regret is not getting the ANR. I have loaned them out a couple of times, and everyone that tried them liked them...

I know several people that use the Flitecom DC clone (Classic ANR model) in helicopters and are very happy with it as well.

I have the Denali ANR's... They are sweet. Bought them for fixed wing so I have to use a helo adapter but they are great. Battery life is pretty good. The ones I have do not have an auto shut off for the ANR. Maybe new models do? They are lightweight and very comfy. I would check and see if you can get a nice used pair on Ebay...
