Did any of you start college and take the first 2 years of ROTC and then decide you did not want to go officer but rather go warrant officer? If so, did taking the first 2 years of ROTC help you secure a MOS 153A position with the warrant board? The reason I ask is that the preferred requirements were a 2 year degree and a private pilot lic. Just curious if 2 yrs ROTC and a private heli lic would catch the eye of the warrant board and of course with the packet in order, for the civilian to flight school route. FLHooker Posted March 16, 2007 Report Share Posted March 16, 2007 You just described me. I enlisted in the Guard, joined ROTC, hated it, got out of ROTC, then went AV WO. No, it didn't help I was previously in ROTC. They didn't care. As for my MOS, actually 154C (CH-47D), it didn't really help that much. Certainly not enough to put yourself thru 2 years of ROTC fully knowing you are going WO. The Assoc degree and PPL isn't a requirement. 67november Posted March 17, 2007 Report Share Posted March 17, 2007 the stop lose is that of keeping the current mil folks from not retireing.the effort is to keep as many as possible in service from the current mil population, thus reducing the need to be agressive on the new promotion side. hope that makes sense. When we got alerted for deployment the stop loss was put in effect, meaning no one could transfer to another unit or get out. When we returned the stop loss was lifted, and people who wanted to get out did. Stop loss does not mean no one can leave the military which is how some people seem to interpret it. That being said, if you enlist in the military, be it active, guard or reserver, expect a trip to the mid east as part of the package. I know I'm expecting another one... Like pogue said, as soon as your unit gets the mob order, your unit is put under the stop loss. It really has nothing to do with active vs guard. I guess I will need to talk to the State Aviation Officer and ask some more questions to get a well rounded idea. The main reason I ask is to just help out people wanting to get into Army Aviation. I lost out because of a recruiter just wanting to put me into field artillery. There are 3 college's that have ROTC kinda close by. Some students interested in Aviation. I know that the Private Lic and AS is not required, it was "Preferred qualifications (Minimum plus)". I just checked the WOR website and seems they dropped the Preferred qualifications (Minimum plus) on MOS 153A. And they raised the age limit to 33 awhile back, so seems they are looking for pilots, almost aggressily? I am gonna keep an eye on that page, they say they are attempting to adjust the MOS list to include the MOS restructure in effect by HRC.
