My physical is complete and verrified. I should have my packet in NLT the end of this month. I am getting my letters from my BN commander, a Full Bird, and a Major. What do you all think. I just looked at the results from the last few boards, added up how many were accepted and denied, comes up to about 20% are accepted. I would be worried about it, I am. I hope to have my packet in for the next board, finishing up my fight physical tuesday. I have some college, great ASVAB, 11 years service, 110 AFAST, and nothing is certain. I think I have a pretty good chance also, but I'll bet that the other 200 people applying this go around think the exact same thing. I"m making sure that my packet is the best it can possibly be and hope that it's enough to get accepted. Everything I can find suggests this is a very competitive field, nearly every single applicant is probably very qualified and would make a great pilot. Don't get over confident and skimp on a single facet, it might just be the one that causes you to be passed over. Good luck! If it works out maybe we'll run into each other at Rucker. I work with him from time to time and I figure if they turn me down with a GENERAL recomending me then something is very very wrong on the board. I have alot of things going for me, I work in the S-3 shop for a school for LT's and CPT's, I have had 2 deployments to Iraq, Various Awards, and my last NCOER was golden. I wouldn't be too worried about it, you should see some of the cupcakes that they accept here at Rucker. Sometimes you just have to sit back and say WOW... Either way... if you don't put your packet in, your answer is NO. Put the packet in, and your chances immediately look better. Don't live in the "what if I had put my packet in" world... I had a conversation with my state's Aviation Officer (a full-bird), and he told stories of people coming into the board with the most stellar packets, scores and references one could possibly hope for. They weren't selected because they went in with an "Of course you're going to select me" attitude. The packet gets you in the door; it's what they see when you walk through it that gets you selected. I guess I'm considered a civlian and go up against those guys because I'm guard. It looks like my recruiter may have gotten some stuff screwed up with my packet, they didn't have my RIP or my Resume. I'm going to get it cleaned up and try again. The contact there for civilian applicants seems like a very sharp guy and I wish I had known to talk with him earlier. If they say no again, I'll get my pilots license civilian and try again, course that will take 2 years..hehe. I'm pretty determined and have a few years yet till I'm 33. I've had the opportunity to sit on aviation selection boards for the National Guard and we would receive letters of recommendation from Senators, CEOs, Generals and the most impressive thing to us was always the interview. Treat it like a job interview and you'll be just fine. Also, if you don't get selected the first time around don't take that as a definite no. Keep trying. It's actually closer to 25% but still- pretty tough. Are you still at Rucker? 'Cause I'm looking to buy a house in the area, and my wife is looking for Army wives to hook up with. If he is applying for AD, there is no interview for AD soldiers (sailors, airmen, marines) and there are only three authorized letters; BN Commander, Company Commander, and a Senior Army Aviator in the ranks of CW3-CW5, MAJ or above.
