I'm 25, I have a Bachelors Degree in aerospace maintenance, a pilots license and an A&P (aircraft mechanic) license. I have a letter of recommendation from a Chief Warrant officer 5 and 2 Colonels. I did very well on the AFAST test. My question is i went to MEPS and was apparently stupid because i didn't lie about drug use...i used marijuana 2 times in 2001. I don't think this disqualifies but does anybody know how badly this hurts me. I have a great package other than that. Is it even worth it or am I just wasting my time. I really want to be an Army aviator and it would be a shame that i am not allowed to do this because i didn't lie. ????

You are here in VA???? PLEASE give me a call ASAP I am with the 224th Aviation Bn here in Richmond with the National Guard. I just went through the system and am now a WOC, and I am sure there is SOMETHING that can be done. But I need all the specifics first. pm me your phone number and I will follow up with you on Sunday!!

Chillflyboy,

If you weren't flat out rejected at the MEPS for your admission, more than likely your clearance will be granted if the standard records checks come back clean. Good luck. Oh, and armyav8r is a recruiter now, so watch out for him. He'll be signing you up to enlist in the VA ARNG as the solution to your problems before you know it!

We have a WOC in my NC Guard unit. What's up with that anyhow? Back in the day you were not a WOC till you showed up and signed in at Rucker. As I recall we never called ourselves Aviators until we got our wings either.

I know, I'm being anal, or am I just gettin old?...................shoot me......................

 Hi...yeah...they call us "Warrant Officer Candidates" once you are Federally Boarded..weird, I know...but that is just the way it is....As far as the name...well, I didn't want to go through a name change on the forum once I actually become an avaitor *Not meaning to be a "pretender" or anything disrespectful to anyone, especially those who have EARNED their wings*...I don't mind tellin folks that I am NOT an aviator....YET ;) I go to school in June..and I am excited about that, and looking forward to it...

Just out of curiosity, where in NC is your unit? I flew (sat in the rear mind you *a passenger*) down to NC a few months ago with some Pilots from my unit to pick up a UH-60 Think it was a Lima Model...not sure..we *borrowed* it for a while while our unit was in Iraq. You all have a great group of folks there..at least the ones that I met :) Oh, and some good BBQ too :)

I came into the Guard after spending 13.5 years in the USMC Reserves as a Crash Fire Rescue Firefighter. While I enjoyed my time in the Marines, I am stoked about my future in the Guard.

Linc: In regards to being a recruiter. I am a Recruiting Assistant in the Guard Recruiting Assistant Program also known as GRAP or G-RAP. If you (proverbially, not "you" specifically) are in the Guard, you should look into it...Sofar it seems to be a good program...

In regard to Virginia...well...I will try to help anyone get in the Guard, espcially if they want to fly..lots of folks have many questions about the Army and WOFT and WOCS etc..., and I am more than willing to answer them...and I really don't care what State either.

Oh, I am not a recruiter either...I work full time as a firefighter for the Department of Homeland Security....I have a lot of down time to do the G-RAP thing..so that is why I am here so often :)

Any other questions about me? I'll be free to answer them to ya ;)

Lastly Old is not a bad thing...in my view it is "seasoned" and if we "young guys" are remotely smart, we will listen and learn from "seasoned" guys like you! :D

Just messin AV8R..I understand not wanting to change the name. Have you signed up for G-Rap? You can get 2K just for recommending someone. Sure you knew that and it's worth it just to take a bit of time a talk to a few people. I have recommended 7 and got 3 in. The extra 6K helps.

Good luck in flight school and keep us posted. Hope they get you a class soon. Our WOC has been waiting 8 mos for the Apache course. Now that we're finally getting Longbows, who knows how long for our transitions....................

I am in G-rap, yeah..seems like a good program, and I have a good recruiter that I work with. I have been hitting it hard lately with some people that seem genuinely interested in joining.

Thanks for the well wishes with flight school, It will be June when I take the drive from VA to AL...but..My family has two beach houses east of Panama City Beach..so I can do some study on the beach during the weekends ;) (seriously..the area is rather quiet) I'll be flying Black Hawks...I am stoked...

After School, I intend to stay in DHS (my current employer) and eventually transfer over to CBP or something like that after I have amassed enough flight hours.
