New Here - National Guard Aviator Application

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just recently stumbled upon this forum and it is exactly what I was looking for as an answer to all of my questions. Thank you everyone for offering so much advice and knowledge.

I am interested in applying for Warrant Officer school as a Rotary Wing Aviator. Based on a lot of forum reading, I've learned a lot already and was directed to the warrant officer application guide on the Go Army website. Based on that guide, however, I noticed that there is an age requirement of 27 1/2 yrs for eligibility for the direct aviator MOS application. I see that there is a waiver, but does anyone know the chances of that being approved? I am actually almost right at 27 1/2 yrs, so I'm thinking I would be a good candidate for the waiver. I am also a former active duty enlisted (4 years as 11B airborne) and I also did one year in the National Guard when I got out of active in 2003. Any thoughts or advice on my situation and what I should do from here would be greatly appreciated.

Cutoff age is now 33.

The army has been slightly loosening certain restrictions to enable more folks to join. I just got picked up and I'm 29.

cadi,

There were several guys that were waivered for their age while I was at Rucker, even though, you still have several years before you would need one. Are you considering the NG or Active? There is a difference for application/acceptance. The actual application is the same, it's just a difference in who you hand it to.

Good luck

I'm considering NG. The application guide that I downloaded from the NG website said that 27 1/2 years was the cutoff without an exception, and that was for the direct application to the rotary wing aviator MOS. I'm not sure if the direct application is any different than becoming a warrant officer first? Also maybe since they wrote that the limit has increased. Would the best place to start be to contact the warrant officer strength manager for my state? Also, is there a directory or anything online that I could find the phone number/ email address for him/her? Thanks.

Yes, yes, and yes?

It probably was changed after it was written, however, I will say that in the NG vs Active duty/ Reserves, you need to be prior enlisted before you can apply for WO. That is only in the NG... Why? you ask... I have no idea. Reserves and Active duty both have the Street to Seat option. However, I may be wrong, so you can certainly call the WO Strength manager for your state, just like you said. I would do that. Easiest way to do that would be Googlin' it. Or if you are in FL, I can just give it to you.
