I joined the military to get the ratings to become an airline pilot. Originally, I wanted to fly P-3s or C-130s. However, when pipeline time came around, there were only helicopter billets available. So I ended up in H-46s. My second tour, I went to an air station that was so short of fixed wing pilots they checked me out in the C-12. From there I flew CV-580s and DC-9s. Now I'm a 737 Captain at a major airline. Tell you what, though. If they offered me a full early retirement, I'd take the money and go fly helicopters again out in the GOM or somewhere else.
