Memorable Ferry Flight

I posted this in another thread, but thought others may enjoy it:

I do have a funny story about puking in a bird...happened to me. I was ferrying a 280 from NH to Colorado a few years ago and somewhere over Kansas I started to get a migrane. It got so bad, I told my co-pilot to fly and navigate for a while while I closed my eyes and tried to get rid of it. Now anyone that's ever had a migrane knows how bad they can get. I took a bunch of Tylenol and closed my eyes. About 40 minutes later I felt much better. I told my co-pilot, "Ok, I'm better I have the aircraft." The flight was very bumpy as we were dodging thunderstorms in Kansas...go figure. Seconds later, and all of a sudden I felt it coming! That rush of heat to my head, throat swelling, stomach turning! Oh my god! I'm gonna puke! I quickly yelled to a now terrified co-pilot, "Take it! Take It!!" He had just got comfortable and struggled to get on the controls! I was frantically dumping a bottle of water out the door....tooo late..... As the power puke into the windscreen occured, the open door creating a nice tornado inside the cabin, puke went everywhere....yes, even on my copilot. After I puked, I felt much better. :P I looked over at my copilot that was still flying and whom didn't say a word, even as puke was dripping off his face. Now that's concentration...and a good friend. Luckily I had a roll of papertowels. Cleaned myself up, then took the bird so he could clean up. We landed as soon as "practable" at some airport in the middle of BFE and cleaned the bird after a trip in the crew car to Walmart for cleaning products.

That story is hilarious!

I have a similar one but in an airplane. Back when I was 10 yrs old and my sister was 8. My parents drove us from Indiana to Arkansas to meet my two older twin brothers in Arkansas. One of them had his PPL and could fly us to Ft. Hood where the two of them were stationed.

It was our first flight ever in an airplane. We were so excited! We just had a big breakfast at my Aunt and Uncles and now we were off to the airport. When we arrived it was very foggy and we had to wait a while for it to clear. As the anticipation mounted so did the heat! It was in July and was getting very hot very fast.

The fog had lifted and we climbed into the 172. I could not imagine what my Father and Mother were thinking as they watched 4 of their 6 children climb into a small plane. The engine started and my heart was racing! I was so excited. My sister though, had this look of (“I’m not sure what is going on but I don’t like it”).

We took off and it was great! We climb up and leveled off. I was taking in all of the scenery and what my brothers were doing up in front. I was asking a lot of questions as did my sister. As the trip progressed the talking decreased. We packed some snacks for the trip and my sister and I decided to get them out. We drank our warm soda and ate our “Little Debbie’s”. After a while my sister just sat there. The airplane ride was now a roller coaster. It was getting late in the day and there was a lot of turbulence. (I’m sure by now you can guess what was coming!)

One of my Brothers noticed that she was not talking or smiling. He asked her if she was alright. She said I think I’m going to get sick. He quickly gave her a bag to throw up into. It couldn’t have come any sooner. As soon as she got it, she let it fly! She continued to let it fly for 6 bags worth!

After a while the airplane started to stink. Just then we made it to Ft. Hood. We landed and as we were getting ready to get out. My brothers said to get out of the plane and don’t look back. We got out and got away from the plane. At that point I had to look. The whole side of the plane was covered in puke! “Someone” poured it out the window while we were flying to make room in case there was more coming and due to the smell!

I don’t think I will ever be the same!

And the owner of that ship has often wondered what that "new helicopter" smell was !!

I know the owner personally...it was mine (N5695A)! I bought the enzyme stuff for dogs and used it...worked great. No smell. Took a while to clean the windscreen! It was like flying IFR for a little bit!

That's AWESOME! We can all laugh about it now! Little hard to during the "moment."

I know the thread is old, but...

I was a low time private pilot working toward my commercial and decided to give a close family friend a ride. He had never been in a helicopter before and showed up at the airport looking a little pale. I assured him that he would enjoy it and we took off in the R22 on this hot summer day with the doors off. We flew around for a bit and decided to do a couple of patterns at the local Class D airport. We are downwind and cleared for the option for runway 30 when he tells me that he hadn't eaten anything today because he was feeling ill. Our 2nd time around, we are cleared to land due to an airplane landing on a cross runway. The stale, warm air circulates through the cabin as we sit on the numbers waiting for take off clearance. It comes...the clearance and the puke. I'm concentrating on the take-off so all I see is the suddenly lurching forward and then spots on the windscreen and my glasses. I also taste a strangely sweet taste. The smell quickly follows and then the voice on the intercom, "Sorry! I forgot that I did have birthday cake before I left." No, I didn't lick my lips to verify!
