vision and waivers

Recommended Posts

i am cfii with about 400ish hours and would like to get my packet together and submit it but i have acouple questions before i start. first of all i have to wear corrective lenses. i know that the cut off for vision with a waiver is 20/50 but what chances would i have if i got the prk/ lasik ? how long of a wait would i have after surgeory? also since i allready hold faa ratings for rotorcraft is it possible to be fast tracked through my army flight school? i wouldnt complain if i had to stay because that would mean more hours/ traing for me to hone my skills. any way i would appreciate the info. thanks

If your vision meets the current requirements (20/50 correctable to 20/20), I'd urge you to not get any corrective surgery. Waivers do nothing but cause problems. If you have the capability of getting in without them, do it. If you insist on getting the surgery, wait until after you're in, get the approval, and then go ahead with the surgery.

And it doesn't matter what ratings you have. You get to suffer the same fate as the rest of us. You shouldn't have too hard of a time though.

I got this from http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant/WOov...AST%20Locations

Hope it helps. Good luck. I just made it in the program. I'll be there in August. See you there. Hooah.

"Determine the Warrant Officer (WO) Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) for which you might be qualified. The most common MOS that personnel from other services are eligible to apply for is 153A (Aviator) because this MOS requires no prior skills or training. For this MOS you must be less than 33 years of age by the convene date of the board (or request a waiver) and have 20/50 distant visual acuity, correctable with spectacles to 20/20, also note there is an Aeromedical refractive error exception to policy (LASIK/PRK information). All other Warrant Officer (WO) Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs) require you to be at least pay grade E5 or higher with 4-6 years experience in a skill that is closely associated with a WO MOS. Review the Prerequisites and Duty Descriptions part of this web site to determine if you are doing very similar work to one of the WO MOSs."
