I have a little problem...

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I found this board while putting together my WO packet, and it seems like this is a commonwealth of information. You might be able to help me with a small problem I have run into. I have assembled almost everything, except for the the AFAST, Flight Physical, and recommendations. I am currenty stationed overseas. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but I am on a combat outpost and rarely get to go to a main FOB, let alone to one where I can speak with a Sr WO so I might be able to receive a recommendation. I am attempting to get my packet in to Ft. Rucker for the September board, but this will not happen if I cannot get the recommendation.

I plan on accomplishing the AFAST and the flight physical when I go home on leave (Dallas/Fort Worth - Ft. Hood) in about 3 weeks. As this is an integral part of the application, I am willing to do just about anything to get one. Does anyone know where I might be able to speak/interview with a Sr Warrant Officer so I can receive/earn a recommendation? Any and all help will be greaty appreciated. Thank you

ps I am glad I found this forum as it has definitey helped answer several questions...

Check the usarec.army.mil website under the Warrant Officer link and look at the deployed soldier link. The last time I looked at it, it listed items that a deployed soldier did not need to include due to the unavailability of them. I hope this helps.

One option might be to try to talk to a Senior WO when you get back to the main FOB on your way to go on leave. If you explain your situation, they might be willing to interview with you pretty quickly. That way maybe they can have a letter for you when you get back. Another option is to have someone you know at the FOB try to help you out, maybe get you an e-mail address of a Senior WO that you could contact to try to schedule something for the next time you end up at the FOB.

I agree with Blake...find out who the aviation unit is in country. If you have to...run out to the aircraft and ask the crew chief to give you some info, get in contact with the unit and I'm sure they'll make the time if you can get up there. I just got back from the 'Stan and we had a number of soldiers knock on our door at the CP and ask for just such a thing. One of the PZ controllers down south even got permission to come up to BAF to get his recommendations. Another option is find out who the local Guard unit in the DFW area is and give them a call and ask if you can come in for an interview. Most guys will be willing to help you out since they were in the same position as you are now.
