I've been studying for the AFAST and acing the practice tests, except for the helicopter knolwedge section - what would be the best resource to learn the necessary info for this part? FLHooker Posted June 21, 2008 Report Share Posted June 21, 2008 ARCO makes a test guide for the AFAST, you can find it in pretty much any decent size bookstore or they can atleast order it for you. SERE C at Rucker... Been through it, not sure what you mean by the 3 stages. If you are talking about Survival, Evasion, and Resistance, then yes... They won't let you Escape though, which sucks. Having never been through the Bragg SERE C course, I've been told it's pretty much based on that same course, but with an Aviator twist. Tim M Posted March 24, 2009 Report Share Posted March 24, 2009 I have the ARCO Study Guide and have been reviewing in here and there. I am planning on getting deeper into my studies prior to taking the AFAST. How long would you recommend I study for (weeks, months) prior to taking the AFAST? I know that if I do not obtain a 90 or higher, then I would be disqualified for the course and would have to wait six months before taking it again. I was hoping to take it near June. Might anyone who has taken the AFAST have any advice as to what subject(s) to look at a little closer than others, and should two to three months be sufficient study time for somebody that is more "above average" in academics? In regards to the helicopter knowledge section its mostly common sense. Complex movements you have to develop your own process of elimination with that. You'll know what I mean once you take a practice test. They have a lot of questions for you to answer in a short amount of time! However I believe the only ones that are graded are the ones that you answer. Thomson Peterson's makes a free study guide. Yeah they gave us a copy of a test booklet where the pictures for that section must have been photo copied over like 10 times and were black and white! LOL its great training...you'll "love" it. i would NOT G3 the course though..you'll only hurt yourself...waiting for stuff to happen. the only constant in the course is change... if you went through sere at bragg then bring your documents to back it up...as long as its rated "C" your good to go... FL HOOKER is right about the ARCO Study guide..as far as helicopter knowledge...go to the library get a book out on theory of rotor wing flight..or wiki it...
