Ok here's the rundown, im seeing a lot of mixed answers from past years but I need an answer from the current climate of WOFT for a high schooler who is about to graduate. My qualifications are high for a highschooler and I pass up most qualifications that the WOFT official page has listed as MOST PREFERRED (I should also clarify that I'm not here to brag, I'm obviously not the best applicant in the world I just need people who are brutally honest). I'm only lacking in having a lot of college credits but I've only ever taken AP classes in school, have been able to maintain a 4.0+ GPA, and have captained for varsity LaCrosse (Leadership experience). I also have my PPL, 75 Flight Hours, and have been in an aviation class for 2 years that is considered the best in the state of Texas. My LORs are from the best leadership I have encountered pulling a Lt. Colonel and a CW5 and 3 united airline pilots, 1 of which was a navy pilot. As far as the scoring that the army is looking for I got a 98 AFQT, 134 GT, and a 70 SIFT. I could've done better on the SIFT but I was rushing during the test which caused dumb mistakes.

I'm not gonna be that guy to talk about the ever since I was a boy BS, but I want this more than I can describe. I want the career, and I want the struggles, this is straight up my passion and I'm gonna cowboy up 'til I get accepted. I just need someone to level with me on the situation, and any ideas from past experiences would be helpful for resume or essay.

Does anyone have experience with obtaining a waiver for a herniated disc during the initial entry process for WOFT? I sustained a C5 herniation approximately 15 months ago and am now fully asymptomatic with no limitations. I’m looking for insight into the waiver process, timelines, and any success stories from others who have gone through something similar.

After taking the Sift test myself I was curious as to how my score compared to everyone else. I couldn’t find anything because the army doesn’t release that information, however, the army did release just enough to do some simple math. The average score on the SIFT test is reported to be a 50 with a standard deviation of 10. Using basic statistics and the use of a Z score, I was able to compile an estimate of how each score faired.
Hi, i am currently a senior in highschool and have had my heart set on the Army and aviation as a whole. I have talked to a recruiter about the program and he insists multiple times that it'd be better off if i enlisted first then dropped a packet. I have a 77 on the ASVAB from a year ago but i am retaking it in 2 weeks. I am already studying for my SIFT test too. I have a solid resume and potential to get good LORs. I am wondering what should i say to my recruiter or if i should find a different recruiter? The main reason he says it'd be better off if i enlisted first is because the program is very hard to get selected into out of highschool. i am aware of this but i still strive to go down that path.

Clusterf*ck at flight physical

	Hello there,

Newb here at the forum. First time posting, though I've been lurking for the last year. This Forum has been a lifesaver when I needed answers and I could read other applicant's experiences, so thank you all so far.

I am a WOFT applicant. Street to seat, with college, my own business, ppl almost done, 30yo and hoping to make the JAN board (or so I was until yesterday). Went to get my flight physical yesterday at Ft Hood and it was a cluster f**k.

For starters my recruiter bailed last minute. He was on leave but the arrangement was for him to meet me at the clinic. The day before I call to confirm and he was like "well about that..." long story short, he has to babysit because his wife wanted to go shopping with her sister (what in the f**k) and did not find anyone from recruiting command to drive me there or even meet me. (It sucked balls to drive 1.5h back to Austin with my eyes nuked, on my own. Not happy. No longer working with him)

At Ft Hood, as soon as I walked for my check in, the flight nurse chewed my ass for being alone. Pretty much every clinic questioned why I did not have a recruiter with me and the bedside manner was just not there.

It all was going fine though, until I go to optometry. My prescription has not changed in a couple years. I got -2.00 and -1.50. What screwed me is that somehow in vissual accuity I got 20/80 which I have never gotten before in my life. (Usually 20/40 or 20/50 at most). So right then and there they told me oh well too bad, your eyes are non waiverable, get lasik, go home and come back in a few months.

The flight nurse was super rude again. Didn't let me finish the rest of the physical and, though, I was nothing but polite she was flippant again, etc. I guess I better get used to it.

Anyway, I guess the good thing is my flight physical wasn't submitted, so my recruiters command (who didn't know recruiter just bailed and now will take care of my packet) is suggesting we go to a different post try again and bring all the documentation I have from previous eye exams and I'm planning on getting one Monday or Tuesday and make sure I am good to go and under 20/70.

In the case I did get something over 20/70 what are the options if any besides lasik or prk? It seems ridiculous that so little diopter would make me so blind, I always have read way more lines than just the first few letters lol

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

	Thanks in advance!

To explain below I am a high schooler working on my WOFT packet and just wanted some critiquing on my essay as I believe it can definitely be improved, but im just not sure how.

Becoming an Army Aviator is an opportunity as well as a challenge I am prepared to take head-on. Coming from a background of Navy and Airforce aviators, I have been growing up in awe of military aviation. However, the Army WOFT program provides a unique opportunity for anyone to sit in the cockpit and take on aviation. The Army’s opportunity to fly the most advanced helicopters in the world combined with their unique take on leadership, skills, integrity, and impact resonates with my core values more than any other branch. I believe becoming an Army Warrant Officer is the correct path for me to take in the world of aviation and military service.

As a nationally and state certified EMT, I have learned invaluable lessons when making hard, quick, and decisive decisions under moments of extreme pressure. The back of an ambulance during the treatment of a patient in critical condition leaves no time for hesitation and requires strong leadership in chaotic environments. On several occasions I have had to step up in the heat of the moment to save a patient's life. After a young girl and her grandma got into a serious T-bone accident our resources were strained. While the paramedics worked on an IV, I took the initiative to stabilize the patient, administer oxygen, and assess for physical damage. During this I was the only one to take leadership of the situation and redirect the paramedics’ attention to the distressed patient for immediate care. I believe my EMT experience translates perfectly into the skills and knowledge required in becoming an Army Aviator.

From my experience as an EMT, holding a job and doing well in high school has only reinforced my ability to multi-task, manage time and perform well under pressure, an essential for Army Aviation. High-stress situations are where I thrive; I am eager to apply my leadership, decision-making skills, and adaptability to the challenge of becoming a Warrant Officer Army Aviator.

Thank you for reading this in advance.

I'm in the process of building a WOFT packet and I am nearing the end of the process, and looking for some guidance. As far as LORs I am planning on using my current Medical Director (Doctor who runs our 911 EMS organization) as well as a pilot out of an aviation unit I volunteer for. I understand the selection board looks for current Army Aviators. My first question is how do I respectfully ask for a LOR from current Army Aviators. I understand it is a big ask, and I would like to go about it in the correct manor.

Second, I have my flight physical scheduled for early January. No issues expected, I am healthy with no significant medical history and not on any medication. Is there anything in my power as an applicant I can do to speed the process of the flight physical?

Third, how do you stand out as a competitive candidate on the oral board? What do they look for in terms of character traits?

	Age: 28

	ASVAB:84

	GT:125

Looking pretty good score and PFT-wise. I am worried about my moral waivers though. I have to submit waivers for (3) offenses that were dropped, expunged, or non-adjudicated.

To summarize, I have three charges which were dropped and/or expunged from my public record. As a part of my due diligence to the United States Army, I must list all charges regardless of their sealed status if an arrest was made or probation was served. As a juvenile, I was arrested at a checkpoint for a DUI, but was released later that night due to my BAC being below the minor legal limit. I personally apologized to the court and they chose to non-adjudicate and expunge my record. In December of 2014, I was arrested outside of a house for waiting in the driver’s seat of my designated driver’s car while under the influence of alcohol. I did not have keys in the ignition and was not attempting to drive, however the car was parked on the wrong side of a residential road which prompted the officer to question me. When I refused to breathalyze, I was arrested and spent the night in jail. In March of 2015, my lawyer met with the prosecutor before trial and they decided to lower charges to disorderly conduct (as a result of refusal) and improper parking, as well as expunging these charges from my record in exchange for a fine. Outside of court mandate, I voluntarily chose to receive counseling from my church pastor and have since stayed away from drinking in excess to remove myself from any possibility of association. Finally, a friend and I took some bikes off a rack one night to ride across campus. Stupid decision, it was 1am after a long library session and they had been laying on the ground by the rack unlocked for weeks, we figured we'd ride them back later. Turns out a campus police officer knew we took them and asked us to bring them back so they didn't have to arrest us. We did and the owners of the bikes pressed charges. We went to court for a theft 3 misdemeanor and the judge said he would drop all charges in exchange for community service. End of story.

I know I have to fill out waivers, but I am concerned about whether they will automatically get rejected because two were initially DUI arrests, even though the court either dropped the charges or changed them. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and had your waivers approved?

..
