  1. Does anyone have a recommendation or two for helicopter flight schools in the Houston area? I'm asking around for a couple guys at work. Thanks.

  4. Anyone have experience regarding international offshore flying. I have a US ATP cert. Most/all of the jobs I've seen want the local country certification (ATP or Commercial). Is it up to the pilot to handle all of the conversions or is that something the company usually does? From what I understand so far, seems like there will be more testing (either written and/or practical) for the country license conversion. Does anyone have experience what all will be involved? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  5. Does anyone have or know where to download a GPS file containing all of the GOM platform locations (including the name of the platform)? I did find one file from 2008 but it didn't have the names of the platforms, only the lat/long coordinates as waypoints. I'm trying to import these to my old gpsmap 96 or my android tablet for use in the GOM. Thanks in advance.

  7. Congrats on the ratings. Where/how did you get the 40 hours of long line? I'm always curious how folks are getting these early long line hours since it seems like so many operators want prior long line experience.

  10. Just to reinforce what others have said here - take both Instrument and CFII at the same time. I just sat for mine a couple weeks ago. Instrument was first, took about 1.5 hours. CFII was next, took about 45 minutes. Why? I'm not kidding when I say I had about 40% of the exact same questions on the CFII as the Instrument. One other piece of advice - at the end of your first test, take the time to look at the questions you missed and what the correct answer should be. There is a good chance, you'll see the same question again, so you don't want to miss it twice.

  13. Under part 61 training, and from the information above, it seems like simulator time would count as long as I have the 50 in the R22. Am I reading that wrong? 61.187 para c - The flight training required by this section may be accomplished: (1) In an aircraft that is representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought; or (2) In a flight simulator or flight training device representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought, and used in accordance with an approved course at a training center certificated under part 142 of this chapter. I thought you just REALLY liked the sunglass smiley faces...
