  1. Thanks for the advice, I was debating between 960 and 720. I wasn't planning on recording in 1080P because it would limit my recording time due to the amount of memory it takes like you were saying. Im sure there is not a huge difference between 720 and 960 but wanted to see what everyone else was using.
  2. I will be going on a short XC trip tomorrow and will be filming all of it with my GoPro, What video Resolution should I use for maximum efficiency?
  3. You are one lucky guy Shaun! That just looks way to Bad A$$, thanks for sharing the video. Congratulations on the once in a lifetime experience!
  4. Yes the majority of people can indeed learn to fly a helicopter if given the necessary training, money and time. But a good "stick" ability does not necessarily make you a good pilot. ADM, Judgment (such as whether to fly or not), knowledge of aircraft, regulations, EPs, flight characteristics Etc, and also passion in aviation all come to mind when thinking of what makes a good pilot a expert pilot. I know you are much more knowledgable in aviation then I am, but just look at all of my accomplishment you made and how lucky you are to have come this far in this amazing industry. Just my .02 c
  5. 7 Marines died yesterday when a Huey and Cobra helicopter collided in the Yuma Training Range Complex. Very sad news, My heart goes out to all the families. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2012/02/report-7-marines-die-in-arizona-helicopter-crash/1#.T0cmY1ETvUR
  6. So if I'm understanding correctly you got to actually fly the Hind? That had to be an amazing experience, how did it fly? Also awesome pictures of the Hind and Eurocopter factory. Sounds like a unforgettable trip.
  7. Hello, I live in Waterford, Michigan (North West of Detroit). I am not a commercial pilot, but I do have my PPL(H) currently. My flight instructor was telling me that he has done wild life surveys for the DNR in the past, as in counting deer for the upcoming hunting season type of thing. My flight school is Magnum Helicopters, they do have a website if you would like to check them out. I am not positive if my IP got the wildlife survey job through Magnum Helicopters or how that worked, I would have to ask him to get more details on that. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but I
  8. First off good idea for a thread, there are already some awesome stories. I'll try one. I was practicing "engine failures at a hover" the day before my checkride and it was not going so well, I just got back from vacation and just couldn't get the feel for them that day. My flight instructor decided that we should delay the checkride until the following week so I had time to get everything back in order. I was feeling pretty bummed out and disappointed at this time, so we proceeded to hover taxi back to the ramp to shutdown and debrief. While doing so a CH-47 Chinook helicopter on final fr
  9. Its awesome that they are manufacturing it in the USA. I have below a condensed version of the unveiling or the longer version below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jwjttyIRGw&feature=youtu.be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2gy1q-nbtI
  10. My thoughts exactly I am very interested to get a in cockpit flight view of the bird in action. I was surprised to see how many passengers it can hold, also it looks very comfortable.
  11. What do you all think of it, looks like a awesome ship. Here is a good article on it. http://verticalmag.com/news/articles/relentless.html
  12. Any Ideas on what bell is unveiling sunday? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlBvjZuy32Q&list=FLNzUMvXNewuUaA9jTzzIhOQ&index=1&feature=plcp
  13. Congrats! How long did it take to get from being selected to where you are now? It must be one hell of a awesome feeling to be able to call yourself a Army Aviator! -Josh
  14. dp, I greatly appreciate your advice and concern. I will definitely talk with my CFI like you mentioned about the types of things I should work on while I am soloing and the things he feels that I should only work on with him. I make sure I keep myself humble and will never "showoff" to friends or family just to give them a thrill. I try to keep the attitude that anything that can happen will happen. I have actually only rented the helicopter one time (a month after my checkride) and that was just a cross country trip to a unfamiliar airport. I will thoroughly go over the rental agreemen
  15. Some awesome advice here, I will be attempting the turns around the nose and tail pirouettes (I did say attempt didn't I ) next time I fly. Also I will be recording all of my flights from now on (with audio) so all of you can critique my techniques -Josh
  16. Hello VR, I was thinking of how I could improve my Piloting when I am flying solo, as in what type of maneuvers would all of you recommend for a 55 hour Private Pilot without a CFI? Of course I am not going to go out and start doing autos by myself I just want something to challenge myself that is also safe to do without a CFI. I will be doing cross country solo flights to unfamiliar airports to build my navigational skills but would also like to improve my "Stick" ability. Would like to know what all of you think. -Josh
  17. This is directly from the Warrant officer recruiting website. Only if it has changed in the past few weeks. Any MOS may apply. Be at least 18, but not have reached their 33rd birthday at the convening of the selection board. "Waivers will be considered for applicants with exceptional qualifications and only on a case by case basis" [*]Score 90 or higher on the Alternate Flight Aptitude Selection Test (AFAST). [*]Successfully pass a Class 1 (warrant officer candidate) Flying Duty Medical Examination (FDME) IAW AR 40-501 that has been approved by the Commander, U.S. Army Aeromedical Cente
  18. I have a few questions concerning the board. What type of questions did they ask you, and how long was the interview? Also how exactly does the selection process work? If 2 to 3 of the officers interviewing you recommend you do you get accepted or does a higher authority review all of the recommended packets and picks based on the Army needs? I greatly appreciate the time everyone puts in to help us wannabe Army aviators figure things out.
  19. Hello everyone, I am also working towards my WOFT packet. I am close to the end with just the flight physical and the need for a higher APFT score in which I am working on. For everyone else out there how long did it take for you to get your flight physical scheduled? Also did you get the 3/4 body photograph taken professionally or just a regular digital copy?
  20. Hello Everyone, I just received the GoPro today and it is amazing! It arrived faster than I thought it would take which is a plus. I went and bought a $30 mic and will have to get the case that will let me plug the microphone into it like Trans Lift said. I did a demo video and all I can say is wow! The image is amazing and the microphone works great. I will start video taping all my flight and will post them to youtube next time I fly. It may look funny but I am going to use the head mount while flying. This forum was a great help in choosing which camera to go with so I thank you all.
  21. I have just ordered a GoPro Hero 2 camera and I should have it early next week. I would like to have audio while flying for ATC Etc. What is the best way to do this? some type of splitter cable of some sorts? Any help is greatly appreiciated.
  22. Hello Everyone, Next weekend I plan on flying to an airport near my grandparents house to have lunch and visit with them Etc. My question is, is there a fee to park on the ramp only for a few hours? Also (This may sound like a dumb question) but how does the parking work on the ramp, as in where to park Etc. During my private pilot flight traning we flew to other airports and landed but never shut down and parked the helicopter.
  23. Hello everyone I recently received my PPL on December 7, due to Christmas time and signing up for college classes I have not had the funds to fly since then. My question is how often should I try to fly to keep my stick ability at a safe level? I will be on a tight budget but would like to get some input from you guys or gals.
