  1. 64/C12 Driver. The grass is not always greener.
  2. You have an interesting outlook on what makes for a great Army flying "gig".
  3. Look passed the initial statement of purpose. This opens the door to bring back the Army pilots as well. With the shortage of Apache drivers, and the mass exodus of late from all airframes, this could easily become the answer short term for the Army. We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to three years," Navy Cdr. Gary Ross, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement. But the executive order itself is not specific to the Air Force, and could conceivably be used in the future to c
  4. I am an ATP holding military FW pilot who is in the process of retiring and looking at all of my opportunities, both flying and non flying, post military. What you are saying sounds all warm and fuzzy, but its not reality.
  5. The 55k first year pay you state isnt inline with reality. I can call 5 people right now who are in their 1st year with the airlines and they will verify it. You cant include the signing bonus being thrown at new hires because that goes directly to your training.
  6. Hell yeah, I liked my own post!!! Thats how awesome it was. Fact. Reality. I must have tapped the like button while scrolling.
  7. The number of pilots who have signed on for the bonus so far is laughably low.
  8. The Air Force is struggling even more than the Army with pilot retention due to poor quality of life, burn out due to deployment requirements, budget constraints limiting the number of new pilots coming through the pipeline, which places an even greater strain on the current mission pilots, and the perception that pushing school buses as a commercial pilot is more lucrative. Trump did just sign an EO to drag 1k retired pilots back on active duty. Im sure they are going to be a joy to work with. WASHINGTON President Trump signed an executive order Friday allowing the Air Force to recall a
  9. From someone who has been in both the Army and Air Force, there isnt a difference between the two. Ive slept in mud and relaxed in a Ritz Carlton in both services. It ultimately comes down to the job you pick and your chain of command, those two things dictate quality of life more than the service youre in.
  10. The 5 minute commute to catch the bus or get to class made living on base worth it.
  11. Arrived to WOCS 2 days prior to my 33rd Bday and graduated, due to the huge bubbles at the time, 2 months after my 35th.
  12. I fly both the 64 and the C12. You will always have Army BS to deal with, they just change the flavor. A previous post of mine about Army FW 80% of the flying is done on autopilot at FL250. So much for fun flying, but it does allow you to catch up on your Netflix. - Active Army is moving to a MI heavy FW setup. Even more so than it already is. Most of the VIP slots are going away. This means the duty station choices will primarily be Fort Bliss, Korea, Fort Hood, etc etc. So much for awesome duty stations. - Your 1st 6+ years as a civilian pilot will be at a pay scale between 27K and 55K
