  1. There is a sticky dedicated to the battalion board. Therein lie the answers that ye seek.
  2. Yeah, it's not about overtraining, that's bad no matter who you are, doing pushups to the max every day will not be effective, your body needs time. It's about pushing yourself through all that pain and discomfort when you have a few more reps in you and having the mental toughness to suck it up. If you aren't taking your body to the point of pain and then past it you are short changing yourself on muscle hypertrophy and essentially wasting your time.
  3. "The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides the champion from someone else who is not a champion. That's what most people lack, having the guts to go on and just say they'll go through the pain no matter what happens." - Arnold
  4. I know you will all think its silly, but I just had to tell you guys, my wife got me one of those intro flights last Christmas. I finally went on it, and holy crap, it was the coolest thing I've ever done! I knew it would be cool but I didn't expect it to be so exhilarating! It was like a roller coaster, we were doing these hard bank turns and all that with the doors off... I mean I know I don't need to tell you guys, you know already what it's like, but man I had no idea how cool it was going to be. Also, hovering that thing is freaking hard, I had a couple of good ones though before the instructor had to rescue me. He gave me the controls (just the cyclic at first) right after we took off, and I was like, uhh, what? I was scared to death, I was sure I was going to plummet us into the trees. I had a death grip on the cyclic just trying to keep us straight and level and alive. He was like "Alright have some fun with it, let's see what you can do" and I said, dude, I'm happy just flying straight. After a couple of minutes I relaxed and asked him to give me a target to fly to so he gave me a little route to fly, it included flying over a water tower, which also scared the shh out of me. By the end I didn't want to give it up. Last thing we did was auto from a hover, which was maybe the scariest thing, just knowing what it was and that feeling of dropping out of the sky. Then the instructor flew in a straight line down the strip while spinning around in circles, I was impressed. I can also say that Microsoft FSX with the realism turned all the way up prepared me exactly none lol. I wish it wasn't so expensive, I'd be doing it all the time while I'm getting my package together.
  5. I like this. Seems simple enough. Add like an extra half a lap at the track every week or two. I've been really focused on losing weight so I've been doing mostly resistance training for the past few months, and I've been neglecting running. I was doing maybe 1.5mi (I do have my AF PT test soon) once per week and sprints one other day. Some weeks I would just skip it. I'll be devoting most of my energy towards running for the next few weeks, maybe running like 6-8 miles/week, then I'll see where I'm at.
  6. I've been getting in much better shape lately, as the APFT is the big thing holding me back, but I'm stuck being slow at the run like the OP. I've always been pretty slow. I think I really just need to push out some fast as I can 2-3 mile runs more often. To give you an idea of how bad I am, I ran a 19:15 2mi just now, and I was pushing it. I can sprint great! I ran a 6:50 mile a few weeks back, it's my endurance that gets me, I just cant hold a fast pace for very long.
  7. During BCT and WOCS, no, you won't be able to take leave. The rest of the time I'm not sure about, but I wouldn't plan on it. You really are going to want to get married before you go. It will be much easier, and you will get paid bigtime while in training compared to being single.
  8. That's affirmative. You go to a local "off the street" recruiter and apply as a civilian. Hunt for one who has experience doing it.
  9. I'm really surprised the C-12 went before the hook. Like... Somebody got "stuck" with a 47... wtf. I know everyone has their preference and all, but that doesn't make sense.
  10. Same here man, I'll be excited to go through Army BCT, especially if I get to do the rumored "gentleman's course" version as a prior service NCO. Orienteering, rappelling down that wall, throwing grenades, live fire exercises, night ops with NVGs. Shooooot, in the Air Force, 10 years ago, during "warrior week" we got a big plastic M16 we called a "rubber ducky" and had to yell "Charging Weapon" to simulate chambering a round... We got a real one on shooting qualification day for a few hours, but that was it. So Army BCT sounds like a blast. The rest of it is a breeze anyway, it's all a mind game, especially if you're in shape enough to be acing your PT like you would be if you get selected.
  11. LOL So he can now do maybe one full push-up without his knees on the ground, congratulations are in order. On behalf of everyone here, Congratulations to Shindig on his outstanding PT improvement. He'll be acing the APFT before we know it.
  12. Welcome. I'm Air Force also. Have you taken any steps toward getting your package together? I'd be interested to hear why you think you "didn't exactly fit the bill" before. Good luck moving forward. How's your PT?
  13. I've been wondering this also. I have a TS/SCI. Seems stupid to fill out an SF-86 for an investigation that isn't going to get done. It would be nice to just include a JPAS rip showing previous investigations.
  14. I've never flown anything, but it seems to me like flying fixed wing after flying rotary in the USA is like trying your hand at pro golf after being a star NFL quarterback. A-10s would be pretty cool, but that's about it. I know quite a few field grade "fighter" pilots who find it dull, referring to themselves as glorified UPS drivers. Without an air-to-air mission I can definitely see how it would be that way. Take off, fly to target, push button, fly home. I know this was probably said somewhat jokingly, but it's been haunting me a little since I read it. I know a little bit about military life, I was active Air Force for 4 years and I'm on active duty orders for the AF again at Ft. Bragg right now, and I know that the Army deploys longer and probably PCSs more often, but is there anything else about quality of life in the Army dragging it down besides those two points? Is it really that bad? Not that it's going to deter me, but I don't want to be surprised for the sake of my wife and family.
  15. The Army Wellness Center on Ft. Bragg has this thing called a 'Bod Pod' that can measure your body fat %, it's supposedly extremely accurate - I got it done today. I'm pretty up there right now, 28.2%. I'm gonna go back once a month to track my progress. Just thought I would share in case anybody else is in the same situation. A lot of bases have an AWC, and they provide a ton of services; for instance, I made an appointment to go back and have my metabolic rate measured.
  16. I'm really bored at work and the forum has been dead so I took a minute and made a collection of the hilarious sh*t Shindig has said. Maybe he's a troll, maybe's he's a turd, idk, but its hilarious. Actually, reading it all at once, it really seems to point towards troll. Enjoy the laughs/ Try to control your rage.
  17. If you are pushing for 2 minutes straight then you are also doing a 2 minute plank.
  18. I'm going into terminator fitness mode starting yesterday. Eating super well and crushing some daily workouts. It's going to be a long road, I'm at about a 190 on the APFT right now, and I'm too fat for accessions. I don't know my BMI but I bust the height/weight by like 25 pounds. Something I've learned in my years of Air Force PT testing is that, if given a choice, do your sit-ups first. If I do push-ups first I lose about 5 sit-ups, and I'm pretty certain it's because you're doing a minute or so plank while doing push-ups.
  19. I thought so before, but I'm starting to lean towards the kid being neither a troll nor even a kid, but an actual turd. Like Bono.
  20. I need this thread to come back for motivation purposes please! I don't care if the pics are of Primary, give me something to look at!
