  1. I'm planning on applying to the next board as long as I get everything put together. Previously tried as a civilian but didn't receive a Aviation Proponent Waiver for a simple Class B misdemeanor (approaching wildlife) in Yellowstone getting charged by a bear. Completely none intentional, but myself and friends charged anyways. Well this time around I've just got to my first duty station in Hawaii as a 15U. Looking for any pointers and advice on what is needed paperwork wise since the first time around my recruiter did the paperwork. Stats: Age: 27 Degree: 2.9 GPA Aviation Major GT: 1
  2. That is another option though the Air Force recruiter I did talk to said off the top of his head didn't think I'd get accepted due to my "criminal history". Suppose it wouldn't hurt to check out again if everything else doesn't pan out.
  3. Actually you have to commission by the time you turn 27 so I would have until 05/2017 to be accepted here in October through the Navy OCS board then to go to OCS and commission. I've scored pretty good on the Navy ASTB with a 8,8,7 I just am waiting to get official approval from the Navy to apply to the Navy OCS board. Like I said the Marines denied me on refraction but the Navy recruiser says there's a good chance I could get accepted to the Navy Pilot program instead. Where I'm sitting is figuring out what to do if that doesn't workout. Plus getting Lasik, waiting 6 months, and getting in
  4. Yes exactly, that's my thinking, just whatever is the most direct route. Of course the recruiter is the one telling me to join as a helo mechanic. I would become a certified helo mechanic which would make my packet look even better. Than also joining and keeping a clean record and showing I'm able to be disciplined will show the Army that I am more deserving of the waiver. (which from what the recruiter said, I believe I would still need if I joined) I just figured Mechanic is not a BAD option, but is it the most direct... Just comparing the Army with the Marines or any other branch I consider
  5. Age: 26 GT: 126 SIFT: 73 APFT: 276 Military: None Education: Bachelors of Science in Aviation Systems Management Flight Time: 46 hours in Cessna LOR: Air Force pilot, National Guard Heli Pilot, Army Heli Pilot, Past Flight Instructor, College Aviation Professor Physical: stamped, no waiver Waivers: I needed a waiver for having a fine over $250. That was a Class B Misdemeanor, $500 fine, and 2 years unsupervised probation for "Approaching Wildlife". AKA was in Yellowstone and got charged by a bear and myself and two friends were charged for getting chased by a bear. So I applied for WOFT a
  6. You have a very good point and something I considered also when looking at the options I have now. The physical part actually I think wouldn't be a big hurdle for me since I'm a prior college track athlete. My score was after only 2 weeks of trying to get into shape to make the board. So with this time now I should have no problem in getting perfect fitness standards. So I actually prefer Marines over Navy but yes for the reasons you stated I'll go for the Navy first.
  7. Yeah I was completely surprised that I was denied. Likely since the downgrade of the Army they of course don't have the pilot requirements that they used to. So first thing they may be doing is first denying those with waivers. Though I believe I have a strong packet so it's hard to see the sense in it. I don't have my license, should have, but ran out of money. That definitely would have helped.
  8. Thanks for all the good information! I have a friend that is in the Navy that just got approved for flight school so talking to him it's something I'm going to look into currently. Sucks of course I'll have to do all the physicals, testing, etc all over again but one way or another I plan on flying. He was saying the same thing age wise so as long as I can get through the paperwork process and boards I'll be in before my time runs out. I would prefer to take the Army route but now it's looking like Marines/Navy. I'm not much on boats, but my desire to fly outweighs that. A new route but
  9. Well good luck guys! I'm now out if the running. I just got the unfortunate call that my waiver was denied. What's your opinions another military branch to apply for their pilot programs?

  11. I'm told by the recruiter it's a "Proponent Waiver" issued by the Aviation Branch of the Army and is the only thing standing between me and July. Though he supposedly can't get ahold of anyone to check if I've been approved, denied, or still in waiting. I've tried calling around but either people aren't willing to help or they don't answer their phone. Would be nice to find someone on here that also needed the waiver.
  12. Civilian here also waiting for July, does anyone have information on attaining waivers? I have a fine over $250 that I'm told I need a waiver for.
  13. Anyone know about getting a proponent waiver? It's the only thing in my way. Recruiters don't even know if they submitted for one or not and don't even know who to contact. Clueless.
  14. I think those questions are all good, but maybe just leave out the last one "Do you think Air Force, Navy, and Marine pilots are really the best? " I've asked it before and they don't like to entertain the idea that another branch is better. I usually ask just questions about their background which usually allows them to then elaborate into some meaningful conversation that is less like an interview. How they got started, what made them choose aviation, etc etc.
