  1. nah, I've been at my unit two years now. Just asking a broader pool of people.
  2. Hey what are y'all using for helmet bags? I'm looking to get one of the ones that I can wear as a backpack that will fit my alse gear and helmet. Maybe plates too? Thanks
  3. Did Kiowas still work with Apaches in pink teams like the hunter/killer teams of vietnam?
  4. Thanks for all the info guys. If the wife and kids come to see me graduate at WOCS, can that be considered the pcs move that the army pays for even if they start traveling (driving) a few days before I technically graduate? (household goods will be shipping separate)
  5. glad i wont be the only crusty 'ol woft guy in basic at Benning! Yamer we're "future soldiers". We don't even know what OPSEC means yet
  6. Anybody else ship to Benning end of February for basic? I report Feb. 21 with my WOCS date in May
  7. Got my WOCS date of May 11. Wife and daughter are staying with family. Will have a son born early June during WOCS. Household goods will ship from from Alaska once I graduate (I'm street to seat). When family comes down for graduation can they stay in TLF housing of some sorts while we wait for our stuff to come and get a house on base for WOFT? Wondering how to make it so they can can stay at Rucker (hopefully with me) upon my graduation even when all our stuff isn't here yet so they don't have to go back home with family and then make another trip. Any wisdom or insight from anyone as to how this works after WOCS?
  8. I have some friends up here in Alaska (Apache family) renting their house out in Enterprise. All I know is that it's been available and it has a pool. I can get you more info if you are interested. They are good people.
  9. Glad I got selected in between shindig 1.0 and 2.0. I feel like I'll have to make up for it later on in life though.
  10. Just got my official call from the army! Got selected!!! All I know is there were 3 non-selects out of about 20 on the civilian side
  11. Well, this is it! Its board week! If anyone hears about civilian results before I do, let me know so i can call my recruiter and have him look them up!
  12. I can confirm! Nightstalkers and Low Level He'll are definitely worth the read! I'm in the middle of Low Level Hell right now.
  13. good luck. You got this! When do civilian results usually come out in coincidence with the board?
  14. As someone ready to sign on the dotted line as soon as this November board is over with, I can say that I am relieved that my commander-in-chief will not be Hillary Clinton.
  15. Sounds like a plan. I'll just do my best while flying above the best and face every challenge that comes my way with perspective. Hard work everyday when no one else notices pays off in the long run.
  16. It is my dream to fly little birds for the Task Force. I am more interested in AH-6's but would take MH-6's in a heart beat. I am up for this month's civi board and am confident about selection. What can I do from the onset of my career to stand out for SORB recruiting? What mission would stand out? If I have the choice in selection should I take 64s over 60s? Looking for a variety of thoughts and advice before I discuss this further with a ret. CW5 160th black hawk pilot that gave me a LOR for my packet after a very through interview. I understand that the chances are slim. But it is OK to dream big. BTW if anyone is interested in 6's or the scouting mission I would recommend Low Level Hell by Hugh Mills. It's a great book about flying loaches in Vietnam from a pilots perspective.
  17. I found out I had to have my signature at the bottom of the page after I'd squeezed my essay into exactly one page hand written. Thank God I'm good at Photoshop.
  18. Civilian board over and done with! I received a 71/75 with full recommendations and good review notes. The hardest part was sitting with my hands flat on my legs and my feet flat. It's hard to not use your hands when you are trying to confidently answer a question. My board was made up of two ROTC officers (LTC and captain) and the recruiting captain. I was expecting the first question to be general where I could tell them about myself and hit a few of my points. Instead I was asked to name 3 achievements I was proud of from school which threw me off for a minute.
  19. So.. for the civilian board they tell you if you are selected but then you don't receive a class date for another week or two? Does that mean when you go down to MEPS to sign your contract within 7 days that they don't give you a basic training date?
  20. Seems like a stretch to make the November board from where you are at from my humble experience of trying to make the September board. And July board. I'd take the time after your flight physical clears to get that CW5 LOR and make sure your APFT is 270+ (my recruiters recommendation to be competitive) ----------------------------- I'll be up for the November Board (civilian). Battalion board is slated for Oct. 14th. All else is complete. Age:27 ASVAB/GT: 98/140 SIFT: 76 APFT: 287 Flight Physical: good to go! Military: none Flight Hours: none Education: -High school valedictorian (3.75 GPA unaccredited ministry school afterwards) LOR: Major (pilot), LTC (pilot), Ret. CW4 (pilot) Ret. CW5 (pilot)
  21. C-12 selection pro's and con's anyone? would you've taken it if you had the chance? Or... if you passed it up, why?
  22. Sooo 15/15 for civilian this board? Is that confirmed? I'll be up for November after my Battalion board is completed October 14th.
  23. I've been told that form 3.3 is to be used by all current service members that are writing you a LOR. Any retired service members or civilians should write a formal letter and don't need to use form 3.3. Just make sure every letter has a signature.
