  1. Long time lurker here It seems based off these forums (and now unfortunately through my own experience) local recruiters are notoriously unable to process WOFT applicants. From what I've read it's "more work for the recruiter and they don't get paid anymore to do it". Her response when I said I was interested in the Warrant Officer Program and that I'd like to put together a packet was.. "Well the WOFT program works like this: you have to be a current helicopter pilot OR you come in a regular job (mos) and we will try to put you in the aviation unit and then you go from there." Since civilians ARE eligible for the Warrant Officer Program and don't need prior flight or military experience I deciphered her response as "I don't want to help you". I was wondering if anyone knew of any Army recruiters in the northern Virginia area that able and willing to help put together WOFT packets? Thanks!
  2. I recently graduated from college and would like to fly rotary wing in the Army. I have been working with a recruiter to put together my WOFT packet. I am needing help getting a LOR from a CW3 or higher in the aviation field. I am willing to do a phone interview, skype or travel to an Army base to assist in the process. I am a civilian and I do not know any warrant officers. Looking for help any way possible. Thank you. I scored a 78 on my ASVAB with a 114 GT. I have not taken the SIFT yet. I am waiting to hear back from Medical about my Lasik. I have been studying for the SIFT from three different guides and I am currently enrolled in Gold Seal Ground School. I am hoping to get a few flight lessons in before my packet is due to make my packet look better.
  3. Hello all, This is my first posting to this website and I am happy to be here! I am currently working on my package for WOFT in the Army and I thought this would be a good place for information and to make contacts that could help me in the process as well as establish a place where I can help people in my same situation in the future. I am an E-7 in the Air Force as an Assistant Fire Chief. I have always wanted to fly helicopters and have finally decided to go through with it! Stats: Age- 30 SIFT- 61 AFPT-No Army PT score but I have a 100\100 on my last Air Force PT test 2 months ago ASVAB GT- 124 Service- 4 years active, 8 years Active Reserve I am working on ways to make my package stand out when it comes time to be reviewed. My goal is to be reviewed at the July 2017 board. I would welcome any suggestions from anyone with some knowledge in this! Also, I would like to make contact with some Senior Warrant Officers for letters of recommendation for my package. Now, I know that wording sounds really sketchy but I have been reading that forums such as this are a good place to meet people who would be willing to interview me and write a letter of recommendation is they feel comfortable with the interview. I assure you, I have bee doing my research and I am not just looking for a hand-holder! Being in the Air Force, I do not have much contact with Warrant Officers so I don't personally know many, let alone SWO. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this and thank you for your advice\replies\assistance! Dan
  4. I am seeking advice on going from reserve status to submitting my Warrant Packet and going active duty in aviation. Any advice will help. 1) I am currently a reservist drilling with my unit, normal reserve status. 2) My goal is to go active duty with my Warrant Packet. 3) I have been told a few different things as far as how to get into the active side of aviation. a) I must apply as a reservist and go thorough training, graduate, report to a reserve aviation unit, then apply for active duty b ) Get a conditional release from the reserve and submit that with my initial warrant packet, then get assigned an active unit after I graduate, given that I fulfill all of my proper training. I think that is the basis for the scenario I find myself in, and I am having lots of trouble with figuring out what to do. I am aware of waiting for slots, but I have been told I will have to wait nearly a year just to submit a packet. If there is any advice or contact info or anything it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  5. To break some of the traditional "selection" and "what if" posts monotony (nothing wrong with those, in fact they have been tremendously helpful) and to get to know some of you, what was it that attracted you to military aviation? Since this is a helo forum, what was it about RW that attracted you over FW? Every time I speak to someone about about helos I repeatedly hear about the inherent dangers of RW aircraft and countless other negatives. Obviously most of you all pressed on despite that, but why? Unlike on your selection board interviews "because it's cool" and "I wanted to blow stuff up" is a perfectly acceptable answer here, though feel free to elaborate. Also feel free to share a few war stories, exciting moments in your career, what you loved/hated about your career, and anything else you feel like adding. One thing I love about being in the ops (flying) side of the Air Force is the atmosphere and camaraderie of fellow aviators and their experiences flying the mission, so I would love to hear more of aviation life from other perspectives. Also, since this is a "General Military Helicopter" forum, are there any other service branches represented here, past or present? I came here for the WOFT stuff, so I appreciate the presence, but has anyone flown for anyone else?
  6. I'm currently in college, after I graduate I want to become a warrant officer and fly helicopters. However I have cleft lip and palate. Would this disqualify my? Everything I read says properly repaired and it has been.
  7. Hey everyone, I have completed my packet for March, however, as of today I have come to a bit of a concerning subject; the essay requirements. I was directed by my recruiter to type a one page essay and have a handwritten copy of it. Today, however, I was told by another applicant that the essay requirements are for it to be one-page-handwritten and then type a copy of that. My deadline for updating my packet is Friday, thus, I am trying to figure this out so I know if I need to get a new essay submitted or not. My questions are: (1) Has anyone made the mistake I have? If so, did it matter (If you were selected)? (2) Lined or blank paper for the handwritten? Neither the battalion or my recruiter have said anything, and while they have been amazing thus far, I refuse to lay my career in their hands when it comes to something I can fix. Thanks for the information!
  8. I was referred to this forum by Lindsey .. here is some of my background.. Hometown – Sunrise, FL Military Experience - None Age - 28 School – Broward College Major – Information Technology Progress Towards Graduation – Graduated Aug of 2012 GPA – 3.8 Sports – Soccer Activities – Running, Bicycling, Swiming APFT: 265 and improving ASVAB: 94% GT: 128 AFAST: 146 Current Progress Towards Application – I am a WOFT applicant. I have been trying to get in the Army for the past 11 months, somehow my application process has been taking this long, and I honestly do not see why. I keep being passed onto a different recruiter, and every time he/she gets my packet, tells me that everything is all screwed up and they have to "fix" a lot of things.. As of last week, I ended up with a new (the fourth one now) recruiter because the guy who has been helping me is on leave and she has still not being able to send my packet.. I just spoke with her and she is telling me that I missed the due date and that the next board is on Nov 5th, with packet cutoff Oct 26th... and also that I might have to take the SIFT.. Are there any recruiters here or anybody has access to this info; who would be kind enough to verify the WOFT packet cutoff and board dates? Honestly, I am getting the run-around at the recruiting station and I feel that there is no progress with my application, nor that I am being taken seriously. I have been very collaborative and patient, but I cannot avoid feeling frustrated about this. Thanks in advance. for the record, I have completed ALL the packet requirements and the only thing missing is the board interview. why can't my packet be submitted?
