  1. I'm trying to start a career as a helicopter pilot. I'm at a job right now that i hate, but it pays enough for me to get lessons. I've been doing research, and I've seen that getting an airplane ppl will save you money when getting your helicopter ppl. Has anyone gone this route starting off, and could they tell me if it was worth doing? I'm also in the army reserves, and I've debated going active duty as a helicopter pilot. I talked to a WO recruiter and he said the best route would be going active duty. The trouble with that is it's not a guarantee I'll make the warrant officer position, a
  2. This thread is intended to put out the most up to date information on the Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits as it pertains to flight training. A lot of big changes that will affect future student's decisions. The biggest one that I can see being the requirement to have your PPL prior to beginning a flight training program in conjunction with an Institution of Higher Learning. This was previously only a requirement for vocational flight training. In addition, the yearly amount for vocational flight training was reduced to $12,048.50 and certain verbiage was placed into the documentation that makes s
  3. Hi, I've done a couple of trial lessons and now I'd like to take it further, and hopefully one day embark on a career as a helicopter pilot. Can anyone recommend a helicopter company in the UK that offers good training?
  4. Hi everyone, I thought sharing my story as a PPL student in South Africa on a R22 will emphasize the importance of training and flying with a 'what if' mindset. I did my pre-flight, started the helicopter, did the run-up checks, called the tower for clearance to cross over the one runway on my way to the so called 'grass square'. This is the only spot in the area with no grass at all and was our departure point for circuit flying. It was a small square and the surface was of the dark reddish kind of clay type. There was no slope and no bumps, just a flat and even surface - perfect for someon
  5. Hello all, Barnacle here with a slight dilemma. For those who don't know much about me, which is likely most people on here, I am a helicopter crazed high school senior. I fortunate enough to receive a scholarship for $3000 towards training for a private pilot license though the "Explorer Program - Aviation." They have all sorts of different career paths that we "explorers" can learn about, so you can bet I jumped all over the aviation one! The only rule placed upon me after earning the scholarship is that I exhaust the funds within one year of receiving (I have until August). My question
