  1. So, after doing some research on the whole 153A path in the army, I've come up with a few questions/comments/concerns about nearly every part of the process I'm hoping to have addressed before I start my career in the army. But for your sake, here are the main ones. 1. LoRs. This is the only part I'm not too worried on as I have a army guard posting 15 minutes away from me that carries a dozen or so 60's with a couple CWO's on base, some time this year I'll contact the unit and ask if I could get a interview from any CW3+ and hopefully get a LOR or 2. Aside from that, my pops served 34 some years in the AF and still has quite a few friends who ended up becoming majors, colonels and even one or 2 who ended up as generals, most of witch he still has contact with and offered to ask if they would interview me to see If they believe I'm worthy of a letter. Is this adequate, or should I push for more diverse letters? 2. Resume/additional certifications. To be honest, I'm sort of freaking out about presenting my resume and/or life achievements to the board, As the only certification I have to my name is from my 8th grade green belt test. And my resume doesn't look much better than that either. It's definitely lacking, but I'm still somewhat at ease considering (from what I've read) the army is currently in a deficit for pilots and will take anyone who isn't mentally disabled and has the willpower to fly aircraft. (though, I do still realize more needs to be done and added to my resume, but what can I do in a year to add to my packet to make it stand out?) 3. Should I do it all now? I'm 17 currently and I am homeschooled with a year off until I'm legally old enough to get my GED. I have talked to the recruiter a little bit here and there with the process but, can I/should I get everything out of the way now so I basically just have to sign the commission papers when I get obtain my GED? As far as like, can I do the ASVAB and sift now? Can I do my board meeting now? can I go through MEPS now etc etc etc, or should I just wait until I turn 18 then do the entire process then and there. I would greatly appreciate any and all help with my concerns. Thank you for taking the time of day to read this!
  2. Good Morning, Longtime lurker here. Thanks for all you do on this forum. I have a hypothetical question: What are the chances of a candidate being successful for WOFT with a prior DUI (civilian)? DUI in 2017, off probation early in 2019 and eligible to enlist. Candidate has strong packet and made a mistake where record was clean prior to event. FAA Com. Ratings in Fixed-wing. Candidate went through FAA HIMS program: 1. 30 day inpatient rehab 2. Outpatient intensive care 3. 90 AA meetings in 90 days 4. HIMS AME Psychiatric Evaluation 5. Significant Aftercare which will continue for next 3-5 years. 6. Volunteered with MADD. Cleared for first class medical. Strong military reference letters with Bachelor's Degree. SIFT 70 but would like to retake for higher. Aced physical fitness test. Waiver possible for active duty or reserve component? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello all, I am currently a SPC in the NG as a 15p. I have a 69 SIFT and a 350 APFT, and I'm a Private Pilot working on my next fixed wing ratings. I am on the last step for NG applicants in which I undergo a final interview with the CCWO and a SAO. My 350 APFT was not taken for record, and before I took another one for the board, I sustained a foot injury in marathon training in which I have been unable to run for 5 months. Does anyone know, is an alternate event (such as the 6.2 mi bike), authorized for submitting a WOFT app? Or, any thoughts on WOFT or college first? (I am a college sophomore). Any input is greatly appreciated.
  4. Hey VR community, First off this site has been invaluable and I appreciate everyone who takes the time to post here. I take the SIFT Thursday and thought other applicants might appreciate hearing my take on it. I have not found many posts about it recently so figured I'd post about it and knock out an intro simultaneously. __________________________________________ Age : 25 Degree : B.S. Family & Child Science with Pre Med track (3.0 gpa) College credits - 209 (Dual major with minor) GT - 131 APFT - TBD 6/25, mock tested at 293 SIFT score - TBD Flight physical - date TBD Waivers :TBD no known medical/eyesight issues Letters of recommendation thus far : -Sgt Major JSOC -County Commissioner _______________________________________________ To the vet VR members, any and all criticism/input is highly valued. I'm aiming for the August 2nd board and doing my best to hunt more letters of recommendation. I'm really hoping for a SIFT score in or above the 60s, doing my part to try and make that happen. I know selection rates are high but I'm trying to give 110% and submit the strongest possible packet. Ill post my detailed experience with the SIFT section by section on Thursday for those who come behind me. Lord have mercy on my hidden figures. Best of luck the everyone!
  5. As of 8/4/18 For those of you studying, you can pick of the Kindle version of this book for 99 cents No, I dont get anything from Amazon if you by it lol https://www.amazon.com/Complete-SIFT-Study-Guide-Preparation-ebook/dp/B01MCW355N
  6. I recently completed the SIFT and naturally wanted to know how my score compared to my competitors other applicants. It's been quite a while since I took a course in statistics and it took me longer than it should have to determine how I measured up. Rather than make you dust off that area of your brain, I decided to put together this cheatsheet (albeit poorly formatted). Disclaimer: I'm assuming the USAREC disclosed mean (50) and standard deviation (10) are accurate in this table. I'm sure actual distribution is different but this should be close enough for government work. SIFT Score % of Test Takers you Outscored 40 15.9% 41 18.4% 42 21.2% 43 24.2% 44 27.4% 45 30.9% 46 34.5% 47 38.2% 48 42.1% 49 46.0% 50 50.0% 51 54.0% 52 57.9% 53 61.8% 54 65.5% 55 69.2% 56 72.6% 57 75.8% 58 78.8% 59 81.6% 60 84.1% 61 86.4% 62 88.5% 63 90.3% 64 91.9% 65 93.3% 66 94.5% 67 95.5% 68 96.4% 69 97.1% 70 97.7% 71 98.2% 72 98.6% 73 98.9% 74 99.2% 75 99.4% 76 99.5% 77 99.7% 78 99.7% 79 99.8% 80 99.9%
  7. As of Jan 2016 I have achieved my goal in regards to the letters of recommendation. Appreciate the support and insight throughout. Good luck to everyone on their packets and safe flying.
  8. In preparation for the APFT I noticed my iPod was a little dry and lacking some decent workout tunes. Doing fitness to Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch and Meatloaf didn't cut it today so I was curious as to what's on your workout playlist? Some new additions today: 1. Disturbed - Down With The Sickness 2. Drowning Pool - Bodies 3. DJ Snake vs. Upon A Burning Body - Turn Down For What (Nightbird Remix) 4. Steve Aoki - Wake Up Call (Peacetreaty Mix) 5. Rob Zombie - Dragula 6. Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide 7. Skillex ft. Sirah - Kyoto 8. Metallica - Fuel 9. Eminem - Till I Collapse (2pac remix) If you have any tunes I'm open to it all. Good luck training for that 300.
