  1. Hello everyone, I'm a new member on this group. Looks like a great forum. I need some help. I wish to become a helicopter pilot and would really appreciate your guidance. (background:I'm in my second last year of engineering from India) I had the following few questions in this regard: Your help is much appreciated.  Which country has the best institutes for helicopter training?  Among the institutes in the recommended country which are ranked on the top?  Which helicopter should one train on?  Which is the best terrain for helicopter training?  Are there any special requirements for admission to the institute?  How and when can I start preparing for the admissions?  Are there any implications regarding LASIK eye correction surgery?  How is current job scenario for helicopter pilots?
  2. With all the flight schools offering different types of training aside from the norm(private, instrument, commercial, CFI, and CFII) what other training should a new pilot try to get. For example night vision, long line/external load, mountain flying, turbine transition... Also, does it really matter which piston helicopters you train in? Is turbine time during training going to be beneficial down the road? In other words,, after the schools are done feeding you their sales pitch, what's the most essential training and in what aircraft?
  3. Hello everyone, I'm looking into getting my CPL and can only find one school within several hours' drive from where I live, but am having a hard time finding current information about it. It's called Helipro, Inc. and is based in San Luis Obispo, CA. I've tried searching the forums here but everything regarding this school is 5-10 years old. I was hoping somebody could tell me a little more about this school, whether they typically are able to hire on graduates as CFI's, whether they're fairly priced, etc. I have a friend that went to a place called Del Rio Aviation in Paso Robles, CA, but their website seems somewhat broken, and the only reviews I could find were all on Yelp, all 5 stars, and all written on the same day. Not trying to imply anything here, but that seems a little strange to me. One final question: what is the job market in general like on the central coast of California? I'm very aware that I'll probably have to travel for most jobs, especially the first few, but if at all possible I'd like to stay somewhat close to home. Thanks in advance for your help!
  4. Looking at going to a school that's training students using the Schweizer 300 and the new Cabri. Was wondering if by training on these platforms I'd be setting myself up for failure or if I'll still be marketable when it comes time to instruct(if not for the same school) and later for employment. Thanks for your help. And in case you're wondering, the school in question is Precision Aviation. Any other suggestions for schools would also be greatly appreciated but they must meet the following criteria: 1. Working with a college degree program 2. In a larger city or within approx. 30/45 mins. 3. Able to accept VA funding Thanks!
  5. Throughout my time at flight school I have heard on several occasions about a NASA program for Warrant Officers. I have tried researching this to confirm that it is true, and if so the requirements such a specific major, past aviation experience, etc. If possible could someone confirm this is true and if so possibly a link or a push in the right direction on where to find out more information about this.Thank you for any assistance that you may provide.
  6. How hard is it to get a job instructing at a different location than where you trained? Also, are there other career opportunities for low hour pilots (200 hours) other than flight instructing?
  7. I run a company involved in educating local youth in aviation. We also offer helicopter flight training. We had an R22 through a friend of ours that a buddy of his owns, but he recently leased it to another company who was guaranteeing a LARGE number of hours per month due to their sheer size.. That leaves us looking to lease something as soon as possbile! We have scheduled events and I would rather not cancel these events, as well as a couple student about to start regularly scheduled training. I've looked into, but haven't really contacted companies recently, like spritzer... They told me before they had nothing in stock at the moment, but I could check back with them. If anyone knows of a place I could obtain an R22 ASAP, please respond, or even pm me.. It would be very much appreciated! Thanks everyone!
  8. Ok guys, Here's my situation. Obviously I'm new here so here's my background. I'm 26 years old, a prior Marine and a homebred MV-22 Osprey guy. I've been an Airframe Mechanic on this AC since '05 and have work for Boeing and Dyncorp for this platform. I'm about tired of maintenance and ready to start flying! I intend to use my GI Bill to attend the Community College of Baltimore County and do the ground school through them so I can use my GI Bill to its fullest. I have the option of going to Part 141 or 61 as long as I go through the school. Here is where I need help: I have narrowed it down to American Helicopters in Manassas, VA who have R22's, R44's and one Bell 206B III. On the other side I have Bussmann Aviation a.k.a. Heloflights apparently flying out of the same airport with an MD-500. Now it's my understanding that I can go up to Commercial and I may be able to weasel my way into CFI but lets assume the former. If I could only go up to Commericial for "Free" which option would be the better choice? I would assume going with the MD since, in my opinion, it would be free Turbine hours but I guess not much PIC. Well that's all I can think of folks, I'm coming off shift and ready to crash out. Thank you all for your help and support! - Corey
