User Names -What do they mean to you?

I thought it would be neat to know why people picked the user names they use. I picked mine because I live in an area in Northern Minnesota known as the Iron Range due to the mining industries. People refer to us as "Ironrangers". There are a lot of interesting usernames being used on VR so tell us why you picked your user name.

I have been called capt kirk since forever, mostly in a teasing negative way as a kid. I am a member of a toyota 4x4 club, several people called me capt all the time, only not derogatory as an adult, so I added the yoTa as in toyota (not yoDa as in star wars) to the end of captkirk and used it as my screen name on the 4x4 forums and just use it for most other sites as well.

Mine is mainly because I don't want to have to remember another login. Back when I used to work for the Fire Department some of us guys were hanging around BS'ing and someone said to me, "Oh, your just a regular old angel of fire then arn't you." and it kind of stuck. So when I went to create one of my first Email address with hotmail I tried to make it just AngelFire but apperently that was taken so then I tried AngelFire_911 and somewhere along the way there was a mistake and it came out AngelFire_91, So I just kept it. Back then it wasn't a big deal, but now I seem to get a lot of questions about being born in '91. The answer is No, I was not born in '91.

How is the diving up there? I'm a rescue certified diver and dive quite a bit, mostly wrecks. Always looking for new uncoventional diving.

67V (Cobra Mech. ???) if so I cross trained on Cobras at Ft (planet) Ord CA, been over 20 years don't remember all the helicopter MOS codes

SquirrelFlight is an evolution of email handles I used dating back a long time now. One of my favorite cartoon characteres growing up is Screwy Squirrel (Bugs Bunny era Tex Avery character), plus I like watching squirrels - they're funny. I soon got bored with that and it changed fairly regularly - one of the ones I still remember is Squirrel Cadet (a play on space cadet). When I developed my interest in aviation, the last evolution to SquirrelFlight resulted

Mine was given to me from a motorcycle riding club I used to belong to years ago. On one week long ride I kept blowing fuses on my bike forcing everyone to keep stopping for me to get more fuses. This went on for the whole week. So once we were back the name was given to me and it has stuck.

I worked on tactical EOC comm systems (data and telephony). Was a cool job and there weren't many of us (high entry criteria for scores and needed to be able to get a higher than normal clearance - there was also a fairly high failure rate during the training). The MOS was eventually phased out.

 

It was a point of pride to be a Lima while I was in and I guess it still is something I'm proud of after having been out for about 11 years. Of course, if I'd just gotten the acceptance for Navy Nuke school a month earlier, things might have been different. . . or at least my username

O.k. I just remembered that I don't use 36lima on this site. It's pretty much the only one I don't and I had forgotten.

 

I like Darren's perspective about being accountable/owning what you say online though so, I think I'll stick with my actual first name on this forum as my username.
