What classifies an external load as either A, B, or C... what classes are there, or where can I find this information?

ref:FAR-133 & AC-133-1A

Class A - cannot move freely, cannot be jettisonable, does not extend below landing gear.

ex: cargo racks

Class B - external load jettisonable, lifted free of ground.

ex: long line

Class C - external load jettisonable, remains in contact with land /water

ex: wire pull ;)
