Goldy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) OK, since no one was seriously injured I can joke a bit. Miraculous some of the situations you can walk away from. Look for the Blue R22 in the top right of the photo... Also, somehow he parked it over several concrete pylons without hitting them....amazing! http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=...&id=6586449 Maybe related to some of the gusty winds we have had in L.A. the last few days ? dave7373 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 lol that took talent!he must have hit the hanger in the air and fell in there! Quote
coloheli Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Wow!!!! Really amazing no one wasn't badly hurt. Quote
HeloJunkie Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 OK - that was amazing...I would have liked to seen a video of how he was able to accomplish that task without hurting himself!! Quote
TomPPL Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I can't see a blue R22 either, they must've changed out the photo. Quote
Goldy Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 I can't see a blue R22 either, they must've changed out the photo. Nope, its the same photo. Its hard to see, but look in the shadow about where the prop of the Cessna should be...thats the tail of the R22, looks like he ran into the back of it... Quote
Wannabe1 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 The only blue I can see in that shot is the blue around the "7". The main rotors and engine must have flown out of the picture on impact? You have better eyes than I have. Quote

heli.pilot Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I opened the picture in another window, and zoomed in, and I'm still not sure I can make out a helicopter in that mess?! Quote
adam32 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 This one says the R22 was slightly damaged and was 100-200 feet away... http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/2...-bn24plane.html Quote
JDHelicopterPilot Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 This one says the R22 was slightly damaged and was 100-200 feet away... http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/2...-bn24plane.html This one is from June. The one Goldy posted is from the 5th of this month. Goldy, I am still looking for the helicopter. Do you know what hangers the plane hit? I know LA Helicopters moved recently. Also, one of the instructors there at Temco worked at Island Express too for a while. Great guy. Hope this doesn't hurt him to much. Quote
ADRidge Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 There are no helicopters in that picture. That dark blue-ish thing on the upper right is a set of valves for some type of pipe. Quote

mechanic Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Yip, valve manifold. Looks like a water main from what I can see. I am not sure natural gas would have that large of piping going into the hanger unless its a very large heated hanger. When I worked for Phillips 66 in a maint facility, we had a 4 inch gas main to run the whole facility to include a steam generator, so that piping looks awfully large. Quote
clay Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 agreed.... negative R-22 in that parking spot. . . . just a water line/valve Quote

It looks like the main water line valves, possibly for the hydrant next to it. Quote
Goldy Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 I love a mystery. JD, I was sorry to hear it was a TEMCO ship, I was just looking at Masahiko's card over the weekend. Glad all are ok, but I don't know who the pilot was. Goldy JD- PS, have you been following that Fire Chief in AZ and his gripes with some of the EMS helo's down there ?? Quote
deerock Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I talked to Zack at LA Heli yesterday and he said that it was a DEA helicopter stationed there that got clipped by the f/w student pilot. Quote
Goldy Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 I talked to Zack at LA Heli yesterday and he said that it was a DEA helicopter stationed there that got clipped by the f/w student pilot. Wow, I din't know the DEA was flying R22's now!! Must be something to do with government cutbacks ! Quote
deerock Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 that's funny Goldy. I guess it wasn't a 22 derek Quote
Goldy Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 that's funny Goldy. I guess it wasn't a 22 derek Nah...but the initial reports I think had it confused because the FW flight school is also a Helicopter school flying R22's. Never believe initial reports ! Honestly, I did not hear what type of DEA ship it was but there is a DEA BO 105 that likes to fly around...I spoke to the pilot last year, he says he prefers their newer ships. I'll take the 105 off their hands anyday! I still think the R22 would cut down our taxes a bit.. Goldy Quote
