sikorskypilot Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 What is the most you ever have had to pay to have a aircraft in a hanger for a night? I was in North Dakota this past weekend (not my favorite trip, -8 for a high and -25 for a low) and the GFK flight center charges $800, yes $800 a night for an aircraft. They apperently also charge $2500 a night for larger jets. The hanger is about 100' by 100'. Can you beat that rate? Quote
Miloe Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 DamnI suppose they have the heated space and you want the heated space so they can charge whatever you're willing to pay.But damn that seems way out of line for overnight storage. Quote
Hedge36 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I can get a warm place to stay at Motel 6 for $35 a night... and they include hangers for free. Quote
heli.pilot Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I can get a warm place to stay at Motel 6 for $35 a night... and they include hangers for free. Now now, I refrained from such humor, couldn't you? Quote
PhotoFlyer Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The place I worked at charged $100 a night in the winter. $50 a night in the warmer months. Near Billings Montana. Quote
wulfman76 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Sounds like a rip-off to me. But i wonder what it costs to heat a big hanger like that to above freezing...especially when its neg25? Back in the day when i pumped fuel in denver it seems like we charged $200 for a citation/lear35 sized a/c....And i thought that was outrageous! Did you(your company) pay the $800? Quote
Hedge36 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Now now, I refrained from such humor, couldn't you? Couldn't help myself. My own flight school spells hangar incorrectly - and we're supposed to be in the aviation business. Quote
sikorskypilot Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 it was $800 a night we were there for 4 nights = $3200, yea we paid but we are gonna go after them for price gouging (i think thats how you spell it) Quote
deerock Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 You should DEFINITELY go after them since they definitely gouged you. What a rip. I look forward to hearing more about what your results will be. I called my brother, who lives in MN and has a heli friend, who said he's heard of $400 but was shocked by $800. Quote
sikorskypilot Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Hanger Rape, I mean Rate update. After A 2 week long battle with the FBO, and many arguments. The credited us back with $1400. The would still leav the hanger rate at $450 a night. Which is better than it was, but come on. I know we will not be stoping in there anymore. Quote
sfdoc Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Depending on what you are flying, $450 seems a bit steep. An S-76 in California will get about $100-$300 a night. Depends on how much Fuel you bought, GPU/APU service catering etc. Next time you are in ND, call AL Palmer at the University of North Dakota. The school is pretty good to deal with. Al is the Director of Flight Ops, and a great guy. Might help for the next time out. Best of Luck Chris Quote
sikorskypilot Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 I will keep that in mind. Hopefully if I ever have to go back it will not be in Jan. or any time when snow is on the ground and the high for the day is -8. So i guess that means July is the only month i will head back. Quote
