thrilsekr Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Link: 20 Jobs That Let You Work Less, Earn More I guess it does say aircraft. Not rotocraft.I guess I did not know how much airline pilots made. Surprising. I think Aramco pays around that much? I don't think I would want to work over there though. Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I think they are using the actual flight time as actual working hours. Most of us work 49 hours per week (That's a 14 hour hitch, 14 days, divided by 4). And they probably have all commercial pilot salaries lumped together. I'm sure it doesn't even count a CFI salary. Statistics are misleading anyway. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Senior captains at the airlines are very well paid. New copilots, not so well, especially at the regionals. They can make less than CFIs at first. It's MSN. Take it for what it's worth, which isn't much. Quote
Marc D Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I just calculated my hourly wage for last year. I made just over $400 per hour. Per flight hour that is! Marc D. Quote
mechanic Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 My co workers brother in law is finishing up his internship in May. He is a orthopedic surgeon. He finished college when he was 30! He has signed a contract with a hospital for a guaranteed job. The hospital is paying him 4 grand per month for the last six months of internship, a 40 grand sign on bonus, and only $38,500 PER MONTH salary….. Oh, and his dad, a surgeon too, paid off his 180 grand school loan as a graduation present. I can't imagine making that kind of money. I had a close friend growing up who's dad was a Dr, he offered to help me thru med school and I politely passed on the offer, guess I screwed myself, huh. I never would have survived the long college stint. Oh well……….. Quote
palmfish Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Airline Captains can make a very good living, but they also get furloughed, lose their job when the airline goes bankrupt, and sell used cars when they lose their medical. If you're not going to be a doctor or a lawyer, you might as well do something you love. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 And I forgot to mention, airline pilots are required by law to retire on their 60th birthday. Well, they don't have to retire, but they can't fly an airliner under Part 121 past their 60th birthday. No fly, no pay. Quote
BillyBob Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 And I forgot to mention, airline pilots are required by law to retire on their 60th birthday. Well, they don't have to retire, but they can't fly an airliner under Part 121 past their 60th birthday. No fly, no pay. It was changed to 65, but who the heck wants to work in the airline industry until 65?! Quote
dosxx Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Well said BOATFIXER! Statistics are one of my biggest pet peeves! Would someone please correct me if i'm wrong here...Shows why our economy is where its at if you ask me. Anyone can make a statistic say what you want it to...sad to say but our laws, our politicians reputations, our educational system, and well just about anything regulatory. Im just like everyone else right now though, just know how to point out the problems and dont know how to fix them. Quote
