Justin DBC Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 So no s*@! there I was at work flying simulated instruments out to Catalina at about 3,000 ft, when at about mid-channel I saw a white, shiney, oval-shaped object in the water. It was hard to make out what it was, but it looked like it could have possibly been a capsised vessel. I called it out and my pilots decided to drop down and swing around for a better look (we'd look like real a$$holes flying over people in distress in a military aircraft). While we were closing the distance, everyone started discussing a plan of action and confirming that it looked like we were dealing with an overturned sailboat. Closer inspection revealed that we were too late for heroics. Dead whale. Quote
MN Heli Flyer Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 You really have a large scan going if you saw something in the water. Quote
Justin DBC Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 When I'm crewing I work everything into my scan... Especially since we're training to spot potential missile threats to the aircraft earlier rather than later Quote
MN Heli Flyer Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Crewing? I thought you were flying! It was a good find and a very interesting story. Quote
Goldy Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 You should have stuck around to watch the sharks feed.....old rotting whale meat, yum yum !! Quote
HelliBoy Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 ill chime in; Its better to get excited about something boring than to be bored when you should be excited Quote
Justin DBC Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Heh... I think the sharks had already gotten to it. It wasn't exactly in pristine shape. Nicely put Heliboy. J- Quote
