edspilot Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 North side of Chicago is where his home is. I'm sure he will be going there alot. Chicago, welcome to my world, everyday in the D.C. area. A "real" pain in the a$$. Looks like ours is going to become forever..... not just a "T"FR Stay alert, edspilot Quote
klas Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) North side of Chicago is where his home is... Actually, his home is on the south side. What happens to training schools within the area? I fly out of a school in Lansing, which will be impacted. During a HELO expo a coupled of weekends ago in Chicago, where they announced this, they said it might have an exemption for flight schools so that they may continue to train. Anyone know what will happen off hand? EDIT - Ah.. well, never mind. Actually read the thing & flight school flights are prohibited. Edited February 12, 2009 by klas Quote
edspilot Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Actually, what happens is that it adds maybe an hour to the scheduled training and only alittle to the flight part of the training. My guess what will happen is that the FAA will set specific procedures for when it is in effect. Such as for airports that are impacted will get "manuvering area/routes" and you will be required to have a squawk code for the pattern work, another for going to and from the the area and so on. A good reference for what you may be in for is to go and take the airspace training online course that is required for all of us within and around DC. http://faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/course_cata...x?categoryId=11 Then go ahead and take the: Navigating the DC ADIZ / SFRA It does not take long 30 minutes and is more informative but it will give you a good idea of what I'm trying to say about codes and all. Wish I could be more positive about it. One good thing is that yours will never become "forever" like ours is about to. You, maybe 4 years or 8 and only when he is there. I'm sure you will see "some form" of this. Good luck, edspilot Quote
klas Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the info! I personally rent to fly out of their school, so although they may be permitted still, us renters will probably be screwed. Edited February 12, 2009 by klas Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 The new area in Dallas can be a pain, depending on which way you're heading into the hospitals. It's not far from Baylor, but it's inside the Love Class B, so you should theoretically get some warning before hitting it. The one near Waco was a pain when in effect, but we usually got through without problems, provided we called the Secret Service in advance. The only times it got dicey was when Bush was arriving or departing TSTC, KCNW, and that was usually only for a short time. I've been held waiting for him, but not for long. Quote
JDHelicopterPilot Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Been held waiting for him while on LifeGuard status? Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 No, never found myself inbound to Waco when he was arriving or departing. I expect I might have been, but it's hard to say for sure. I've been held at the hospital trying to leave, just using my callsign with no mention of lifeguard status either way. I would certainly have been rerouted around the Class D regardless of status.
