Wow, cant believe either.....JD- had a fixed wing go down on the west end last week, killed 3 on board. Pretty gruesome scene. I hate accidents. Goldy Quote
ironranger Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Remember the day like it was yesterday. RIP John. You will never be forgotten. Quote
ADRidge Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I actually stumbled across a bit about him in a book, believe it or not. The author of "The God Machine" took a few intro flights with him to get a pilot's point of view of the development of the helicopter, and John was his instructor. It was really nice to read about John talking his way through a preflight and things like that. Rest in Peace, man. Quote
rotor91 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I went to John's memorial webpage....John's website and I went into John's Life as a Pilot, and printed out his story he wrote, and took downstairs at work and re-read again....it brought tears to my eyes...because John had the PASSION of flying in his blood. A lot like most of us..... Like some of the veterans....he did the PPL, CPL, CFI, then taught....chief pilot....then got the gig in the GOM! BUT John loved the GOM....or....he just loved flying....PERIOD! We never spoke on the phone, only through VR...but it was great to see his words of encouragement....or calling you on something...or just explaining it to you...so you understand it! He is truly missed, by his wife, and everyone who got a chance to meet him...even if it was through VR Forum...or PM's! About 10 years ago...a friend of mine was killed in a experimental FW.....but it didn't surprise me...that she died that way...because she loved to fly....she love the thrill. I spoke briefly at her eulogy...and I simply wrote...and I'm not a religious person...BUT.....God took Eve(friends name)...because he needed another angle to look down upon us...to watch over us...and to protect us. That's why John is where he is..... RobR91 Quote
