Does Flying get better than this ?

You're probably right. The worst thing that would probably happen is me getting nervous and pulling an Elmer Fudd on the radio and irritating a controller. Then I would get to both of my favorite things in the world similtaneously.... Flying AND annoying people!

I do that all the time to Ft Worth Center. I think they know me by now. "Oh, that's the guy that can't talk on the wadio!"

About 15 years ago, I flew a friend of mine to LAX, so she could catch a flight. This was when you could meet your person at the gate...I know long time ago! So I walk her to the gate, and we sit down, and I have a ice tea, and she orders a beer. We sit and chat for about 30 min. and I walk back to the pad. OK...it's the early 90's...and I have really long hair(it's in a pony tail though). The door code doesn't work, so I have to call security, which is LAX PD. The look on this cop, when he sees me...long hair....wanting to go the roof pad to get in my helicopter....PRICELESS. He actually walked all the way up to the pad with me, and stood there while I preflighted, and started her up. I did a pedal turn towards him, dipped the nose up & down, to say goodbye...he actually waved...and off I went! :)

I love when I get that look from people. I'm covered in tattoos so I end up attracting a lot of attention when I stop at an airport. I don't know how many times I've heard "you don't look like a pilot". Luckily I clean up well when I'm working ;)

Next time you fly solo, fly through Bravo. It would be good for you. In all reality, it's really not much different than any other airspace.

Agreed! Get comfortable in Class B early on. It's no big deal so just do it as many times as it takes to feel good about it. You don't want to go to your cool new turbine job that happens to be based in a Class B and have that discomfort lingering!

I also do miss those cool summer nights of instructing. Flying along the shoreline, doors off, from KCRQ to KLAX and grabbing dinner. Cross the 25's at 1500', zero AS auto down to make a normal approach to the west pad. Shoreline South departure back out cause the dang 22 doesn't wanna be to 1500' by the turn. FUN FUN stuff. :D

Or the KCRQ to KSDM through KSAN taxiway Delta transition, grab a bite, grab something else hahaha (inside joke) and cruise back along the border, shoreline transition through Class B, back home for a practice ILS cause it's there :)

I love 200AGL at 100 Knots.

What are you doing up so high? :P

A couple of my favorites so far:

-First time flying low level (Had been doing flights to and from the stagefields, and nothing but traffic patterns once we got there). It really made me remember why I was in flight school in the first place.

-Four ship formation over a NFL game for this past Veteran's Day. We landed at a nearby airport, and got a police escort back to the game, where they had field passes waiting for us. Got to stand just to the side of the goal post for the remaining three quarters. Observations: 1) Cheerleaders are AWESOME 2) Drunk people at games just WANT to buy you beer. Even when you insist that you can't have any because you're flying. (For the record, he forced money into my hand and told me to get some when we got back.)

Awhile ago, I took my half-brothers, step-mom, and her sister up in the 22...ended up being x8 10 min flights. My Dad is afraid of heights, so I made him my passenger escort for each flight, he would escort everyone to the helicopter, give the thumbs up, and off I'd go with someone else. The last person hops out, and I was going to move the helicopter over to the pad, so I could roll it into the hangar. My Dad hops in, puts on the headset, seatbelt too, and I tell him what is he doing....after explaining how to key the mike.....he says...well...you've take up the 4 most important people up in my life, so I figure I am safe with YOU. So we flew over Warner Center, West Valley, and back to VNY.....he was calm as a cucumber...never screamed ONCE....that was my most memorable flight!! :)

AND....my first full 1.5 hour scheduled solo flight.....flew on Superbowl Sunday.....cold....clear...I could see the ocean(and see the blue color too) from Pasadena.....from that moment on...I knew I was going to be a helicopter pilot for the rest of my life! :)
