The Central Florida Fire Academy would like to thank Lyn Burks and vertical reference for allowing us to post our announcement for our Upcoming Huet/survival training. Our academy director has allowed me to open this event to all interested pilots or anyone involved in aviation interested in this training. Please Call CFFA at 407-855-3281 for registration or Jeff Ponds Special Operations Bureau Manager 321-436-2179 for further questions.

Dates: April 27, 2009

Time: 0800-1700

Location: A.M. Fire Academy

P.M. YMCA on International Dr.

Instructor: Fire Captain Mike Dickens (OCFR),

a former military aircrew officer

This basic water survival training course is designed for flight crews

and others who serve on helicopters – such as EMTs, paramedics

and law enforcement personnel. Students learn and practice skills for

surviving crashes into bodies of water.

The course begins with two hours of classroom time at the Fire Academy

and, after lunch, continues in the pool at the YMCA on International

Drive in Orlando. There, students will have the opportunity to practice

safe egress skills through use of a Portable Aircraft Egress Training Device,

as well as other life-sustaining water survival skills.

Bring: swim suit, tennis shoes or boots that can get wet, a towel

Optional: survival equipment from your own aircraft that you would like to

practice with and/or a personal flight suit that you are willing to get wet

If anyone has the time and are in the area, go do this. I just did my initial dunker training last week (different company) and man is it ever an eye opener!!

Do yourself a favor... go! Even if you're not in the area I highly recommend you find a local company that does this sort of training. You won't regret it.

Agreed. Some of the better non-flight training I received at Ft Rucker. The guys doing the training there (back in '07, anyhow) were absolutely top-notch. If the instructors doing similar courses are anything like them, you'd be silly not to go.
