gmcd
I'm looking to finish up my commercial and was wondering if anyone could suggest a school near the South Bend Indiana area. I have about 70 hrs in a 300C and would love to continue flying that, but I'm sure that wont be available and would probably be pricy. The only place I know of is in Goshen, IN- they werent offering commercial training, and I cant afford their $ 435 / hr price for an Enstrom. Any ideas? I dont mind driving, but dont want to be in the car all day on the way to an airport either. Thanks!
chucksweet
The folks at Goshen are great. I bought my ship there and have done some training. You could also try this guy: http://www.myspace.com/fortwaynehelicopters Tell Kenny I sent you. It would still be in an Enstrom, but maybe he could do it for less. He is a great instructor. He did the majority of my training for my license. He has experience in a lot of different machines and is based out of the Warsaw area. jdale
Kenny is a great instructor, I received my Private and CFI with him. The Enstrom is great to fly and very enjoyable, I went from flying robis to the Enstrom. Jdale
gmcd
Thanks Chuck. I agree, the guys at Goshen look like a great operation, it was just price that really made me think twice. I'm not sure I it was you or not, but I met a gentleman at the fuel pumps at Medina Ohio that flew an Enstrom and recommended Kenny as well. I had Kennys information, then lost it in my recent move. I'll email Kenny and see what they can do as far as price goes. How is the Enstrom they use compared to a 300c? Easy transition? I also have a few hours in a Bell 47. Would that be more like the Enstrom?
chucksweet
It was not me at Medina...sorry.I have no idea about the 300 or Bell 47, but the Enstrom is so easy to fly I can't imagine the transition would be hard at all. Go fly for one hour and see..you'll know within minutes. Here is another link to Kenny http://www.warsawflyingclub.com/ Good luck with it.. BOATFIXERGUY
The Enstrom is a great machine. You'll have no problem with it. You will quickly fall in love with the great autos, speed, and overall comfort.

sikorskypilot
If you do mind the drive. The flight school where i got my commercial is at KIGQ lansing, IL. Sun Aero helicopters. IT is about 78miles from KSBN and around 1.5hr drive. I used to drive an hour to get to sun aero. Great school, nice clean operation. The do alot of nascar races, the started fixed wing training. and have R22 and 44 that are clean. Thats where I go. Check out his link for the rates and their site. Tell them Midwest Helicotpers sent you if you go.http://www.sunaerohelicopters.com/flashind...instruction.swfwww.sunaerohelicopters.com Good luck. Vassago
Cool!I'm currently living in Wash DC area learning, and was hoping to move closer to family in SW MI (Niles). Great to hear there are a few schools in the area.. unfortunately lansing is near 2 hours, but Warsaw only 1 hour. I'm currently learning in the R22, so will be interesting to try an Enstrom when I finally get moved.I'll bookmark this link so I can find it later

JIM Thats a bit of a drive, but it's something that I might be interested in. I have no R22 time, and would like to instruct one day, so building the robi time woudl probably be a good thing. My goal is to finish the commercial and get CFI. I'm also trying to finish my Instrument Airplane. Money is a pretty big concern so I have this feeling it's going to take me quite some time to finish up.

Yea, one other thing to add, is that sun aero does offer block rates, which helps on cost alot. They also have a fixed wing school there. So you can do it all in one place.
