Gunner
Anyone out there been to AS-350 Initial Training at Eurocopter? I have a private owner that is planning on sending me down there for initial on the A-Star. Anyone know is there are any books that I can get my hands on prior to the course or any books to assist in a turbine transition? Thanks! palmfish
The school is very thorough. Plenty of classroom time going over all the systems, EPs, and limits. You don't need to do anything to prepare - just show up and enjoy.
C of G
As far as basic turbine theory is concerned, I would pick up Shawn Coyle's book (Cyclic and Collective) as a prep to the class if you don't have any turbine experience. The class at Eurocopter will go into Turbomeca engines specifically, but not the basics of how turbines works. Other than that, go be a sponge and don't be shy in asking questions. IceWater
Where can I find info on this school? Will it look good on the resume?
Mikemv
Ice, go to http://www.eurocopterusa.com & look under training for cost and scheduling. All factory schools look good on a resume but what insurance companies like to see is initial pilot transition course and then yearly recurrent factory training. Good luck, MikeMV
IceWater
Thanks Mike. If I'm reading it right through my blackberry, it looks like transition training for the AS350 is $8660 minimum, and it's 3 days long. I guess it's time to start saving... *Sigh* Edited August 26, 2009 by IceWater
Mikemv
ICE, Initial pilot transition courses are usually 2.5 days of ground school and then a minimum of 3 hours of flying over 2.5 days for an experienced pilot but more for inexperienced pilots. A certificate is issued when the IP feels confident that you can operate the helo safely. I am there every year for EC120 recurrent. Again, good luck, Mike
