Employer paying for cross-training (FW to RW)

What are the chances of a FW pilot who works for a company that operates both airplanes and helicopters getting trained on the job to fly RW? I used to know a guy that did it working for a State Forest Service. I'm told it happens sometimes in larger companies (person gets hired to fly airplanes, and is eventually trained by the company to also fly their helicopters). Anybody have any information? I'm an airplane pilot now (though don't have enough hours yet to get a FW job). Hoping to get a job someday flying charters but want to fly helicopters as well.
