BlackHwk27
I've received a few flyers in the mail from various companies, offering their FAA approved CFI renewal training online, for a fee. My CFII expires in November and I'm considering giving it a shot, as American Flyers offers a one time fee of $125, for lifetime renewal. Seems like a decent deal! Has anyone tried any of these? PhotoFlyer
I used Jeppesen last time I renewed. The course was ok, but of course it was for fixed wing. I've never heard of that one, but $125 for life sounds good if it's legit. Got a link? Edited September 28, 2009 by PhotoFlyer

67november
I highly doubt that the FAA is going to allow a lifetime renewal of anything, it was just 2 years ago when the FAA allowed the IA's to renew for a 2 year period instead of 1 year. unless someone can find a current bulliten allowing such a renewal I'd round file anything offering such a deal. BOATFIXERGUY
The way I interpreted his post was a one time "fee" for lifetime renewals, not certification.
Kandace
I used Gleim's online course to renew my Sport Pilot CFI just this year. It was $99 for the online course and I highly recommend it. I took my completion certificate and 8710 to the local FAA and got my temporary certificate. The course was informative and I learned some new teaching techniques in the process. Kandace
jeffham
I have used American flyers for the last 3 renewals. I used Gleim prior to that for 1 renewal. Gleim was a little better. However, in my opinion, neither were really that great for increasing your knowledge or making you a better instructor. I would recommend AF since they have the lifetime renewal. If you want some tips on making the test easier, PM me for some info.
BlackHwk27
Thanks for all the replies! The link to the company I was referring to is http://www.americanflyers.net/FIRC And BOATFIXERGUY has it right, it's a one time fee of $125, and you can renew your certificate with them every 2 years, for life. EC120AV8R
American Flyers has been around a long time and they have a good reputation with their training programs. I am not familiar with their CFI renewal, but I did my fixed wing training with them years ago.
HelliBoy
I use AF as well. Its FW based but if you cut and paste the training sections into a word processor its like an open book test and pretty easy. Its very time consuming and extremely boring because theres mandatory study periods that you have to keep active in order to take the tests. Do it in front of the TV on a rainy day. I also like the fact that I'll never pay for a renewal again.
RockyMountainPilot
I paid the American Flyers course back in 99 I believe, and I haven't paid since. Great deal. I did the Jeppesen course one year when I worked for Jeppesen, so it was free. I didn't think the Jepp course was any better then the American Flyers one. The thing that bugs me about the American Flyers course, is that they don't divi up the time requirement better. The first lesson is really short and they give you 100 minutes. The second one is really long and they give you 100 minutes. I ended up waiting almost an hour on the first course just to get to the time expiration.
