permison
http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/02/euroc...o-whisper-mode/ Eurocopter engineers have developed a new kind of rotor blade that attenuates this problem. It's called Blue Edge, and—as you can hear—it works beautifully: The new blade shape is combined with another technology called Blue Pulse, which adds three flaps to the edge of the rotor blades. These flaps move up and down at 15 to 40 times per second, using piezoelectric motors that also help to reduce the blade-vortex interaction

Lindsey
Does anyone else think this is sad? I mean, like, rotors just sound incredible!
Wally
That won't be inexpensive, kinda counter-productive in a market that's aggressively 'controlling costs'.
Goldy
Does anyone else think this is sad? I mean, like, rotors just sound incredible! Hmm, I agree, BUT.. I can fly the old R44, OR I can fly a brand new EC 155 with the latest blade technologies. Let me think about it. Goldy
jumpngonuts
I'd take a brand new 407 that still sounds like a real helicopter

Grant B
Though this is cool and unique for helicopters - it's not totally new science. Noctua make some of the best cooling solutions for computers which employ similar quietening methods with their fans: http://noctua.at/main.php?show=nf_p14_blad...sign&lng=en
EAGLE1
The only thing that sounds like a "real" helicopter is a Huey! Noisy as hell to most, but sweet music to my ears!
