Who is offering vertical reference training in the southeastern US? Also wondering if people interested in VR would prefer to do it in a piston to keep costs down or do it in a turbine.

Bristow do it in a 300. It is a 19 hour course but they are not 133 certified. It is just a simple external load course. I would prefer to do it in a piston to keep costs down. We use a 44 up here in MA for lift work, performs fantastically.

A VR course in a piston helicopter is a good idea. Not so much to keep the cost down, but in a H300 or some other helicopter where you have to work the throttle. Since they have less poswer, you are working more toward the edge. In the real VR world, especially some of the utility jobs out there, you will be working right at the max limits of the helicopter. So if you have never been there, it could be an interesting learning experience.
