01CelicaGTS Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Just saw this over the weekend. http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Helicopter-crashes-near-Hillsboro-Airport-96706394.html Glad both are OK. Anybody have anymore info on the crash? Quote
RagMan Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Another one? Wasn't there an R22 crash out of Hillsboro a few weeks back as well? Thought it was a student on the earlier one who had rented the aircraft and crashed it. Sounds like this is a similar case, and they didn't mention anything about an instructor on board. I could be wrong though. Quote
Goldy Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Glad all are ok. Probably just another case of Spontaneous Helicopter Rollover Effect. Look at that photo, notice how the stainless steel leading edge bent and stayed intact, but the aluminum blade just cracked and tore off. Little bondo and some paint, I'm sure it will be on ebay in no time. Goldy Quote
egg beater Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 No other crashes in Hillsboro. Glad everyone was ok, but really no other crashes over there? 2010 Linked above2009 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=WPR09FA459&rpt=p2009 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=WPR09CA375&rpt=fa2009 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=WPR09CA377&rpt=fa2008 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=LAX08CA185&rpt=fa2004 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=SEA04CA122&rpt=fa2003 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=SEA03LA160&rpt=fa Quote

I could be wrong though. RagMan, the one you think about was in Spokane, WA. This was a private pilot with a passenger. He performed an awesome touchdown autorotation. When he came down in the field the skids got stuck and the Heli rolled over. Both walked away without a scratch.I admire the pilot, first fulldown auto of his life and he almost made it perfect. I guess he was trained right. Quote
RagMan Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 That would be the ship I was referring to. Don't know why I was thinking Hillsboro. Doh! I start in the R22 simulator this coming week! Quote
