zero610 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Can someone tell me if approved simulator time counts toward the 200 flight hours required to instruct in a Robinson helicopter? Thanks in advance. Quote
crashed_05 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) Not that I can see. 200 total helicopter hrs50 of which are in the R22or if you want to instruct in the R44, 50hrs are required in it25 R22 hrs may be credited toward the 50 required in the R44. 61.187 para c - The flight training required by this section may be accomplished: (1) In an aircraft that is representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought; or (2) In a flight simulator or flight training device representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought, and used in accordance with an approved course at a training center certificated under part 142 of this chapter. Subpart F to Part 141 part 4b For the use of flight simulators or flight training devices: (1) The course may include training in a flight simulator or flight training device, provided it is representative of the aircraft for which the course is approved, meets the requirements of this paragraph, and the training is given by an authorized instructor. (2) Training in a flight simulator that meets the requirements of §141.41(a) of this part, may be credited for a maximum of 10 percent of the total flight training hour requirements of the approved course, or of this section, whichever is less. (3) Training in a flight training device that meets the requirements of §141.41( of this part, may be credited for a maximum of 5 percent of the total flight training hour requirements of the approved course, or of this section, whichever is less. (4) Training in flight simulators or flight training devices described in paragraphs ((2) and ((3) of this section, if used in combination, may be credited for a maximum of 10 percent of the total flight training hour requirements of the approved course, or of this section, whichever is less. However, credit for training in a flight training device that meets the requirements of §141.41( cannot exceed the limitation provided for in paragraph ((3) of this section. I don't know if Robinsons are excluded from this or not...the SFAR doesn't mention anything about sim time. Edited October 14, 2010 by crashed_05 Quote
crashed_05 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I didn't put in all those sunglassed smilies...they should be "b" Quote
zero610 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 Under part 61 training, and from the information above, it seems like simulator time would count as long as I have the 50 in the R22. Am I reading that wrong? 61.187 para c - The flight training required by this section may be accomplished: (1) In an aircraft that is representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought; or (2) In a flight simulator or flight training device representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought, and used in accordance with an approved course at a training center certificated under part 142 of this chapter. I thought you just REALLY liked the sunglass smiley faces... Quote
HeliUtah Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 SFAR 73 specifies 200 hours in helicopters, whereas the Part 61 allowances mentioned above are applicable toward ratings only. There are no exceptions in the SFAR for simulator or flight training devices. Quote
ADRidge Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) SFAR 73 says.... ( b ) Aeronautical Experience: (1) No person may act as pilot in command of a Robinson model R-22 unless that person: (i) Has had at least 200 flight hours in helicopters, at least 50 flight hours of which were in the Robinson R-22; or (ii) Has had at least 10 hours dual instruction in the Robinson R-22 and has received an endorsement from a certified flight instructor authorized under paragraph ( B )(5) of this section that the individual has been given the training required by this paragraph and is proficient to act as pilot in command of an R-22. Emphasis added by me. Seems like it's fairly clear in saying no. Edited October 14, 2010 by ADRidge Quote
crashed_05 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 That's what I figured, but I wasn't positive, so I didn't want to throw a definite yes or no out there. Quote
zero610 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Although not the answer I wanted, I'm glad to have one. Thanks for all the clarification. Quote
