To All that attended the FAASTeam bonus and Heli-Success, how about some feedback so everyone that did not attend can get an opinion on attending in the future?

I actually collected all of the Critique sheets for Lyn but did not get a chance to look at any of them.

I am especially interested on how my FAASTeam ADM presentation was received and in particular the "ADM Safety Umbrella" concept?

I did get to talk with many and spend some time with CFIs discussing teaching techniques and such. Those of you I did not get to talk with, I apologize as at times I was spread a little thin trying to help everyone and be support for Lyn and speakers.

I missed talking with HeliGirl03(Emily) but she did ask a great question about the first lesson/flight using SBT. Sorry, Emily.

It was an exhaustive event for me because of the 3 hours in time difference. I was glad when Barry showed up so I was no longer the oldest guy in the room. Some of us dinosaurs are still able to keep up.

If I can assist anyone my e-mail is mikefranz@embarqmail.com. Happy to help or follow up on anything from Heli-Success or FAASTeam.

Anyone that attended is already listed for credit with the "Wings" program. If you are not already registered go to www.faasafety.gov , register and your credit for attending will be applied. Thanks to Jason Dykstra for his hard work in getting everyone listed as there were about 100 of you or so.

And last but certainly not least, Thanks to Chris (kodoz) for his tireless efforts in helping everyone to get their resumes in order. Both of us were there at our own expense to bring something to the event.

Sincerely,

Mikemv

Hi everybody.

i have a lot of decompressing to do after Heli-Success... and i have a ton of information i hope to impart as well but it will take a few days for me to get it all together and posted here. So, just for today, i wanted to say a couple of things;

I was amazed and humbled by all of the high powered industry icons that came to give back.. amazed. Not only did they participate as speakers, but stayed after and during the breaks to speak with who ever was there. More on that later.

At Colorado Heli-Ops we will make this a part of our professional pilot program from now on, and will encourage everyone we know that is at any level to participate. It cost me just about $500 and goes to the TOP of the list of the best spent money in my aviation career.. right above the Robinson Safety Course (all expenses added up including the airline ticket, i split a room with another team member).

If someone had limited $$ and could only attend one event between Heli Expo and the Heli-Success i'd say it was a no brainer.. more on that later..

I spoke to many folks looking for jobs and more information and of course i suggested that they come here for more info... one person was somewhat skeptical, so i stopped an counted the folks i met first on VR... (it was during the end of the job fair portion of the event and the room had cleared out to about half).. in a quick sweep from left to right i counted 12 people.. it was profound!

I was approached by a TON of folks, and asked many questions about everything, but most were about SBT!! The industry knows it will be a better way.

I'll get back to this later.. the show was simply amazing and i am very appreciative for everyone that helped Lyn put it together, the participants, and the folks i had the honor to meet..

aloha,

Mike Dennis, It was great to put names with faces after all this time. It was a fantastic event. Ran into several people I had worked with in the past. Great folks like Charlie Reid from Tri-State, Janie Foster of Evergreen and Kevin Washer of Omni. Plus makes a bunch of new contacts. I might have gotten an interview or two out of this. Time will tell. Even made a couple of networking contacts on the shuttle bus on the way to the airport on Tuesday.

Exchanged ideas with some, got some possible job leads from others and passed some advice onto a few of the younger folks coming up. Like Barry and Mike have said, it's giving back.

While I feel I had a good resume, Chris made some suggestions that really made my resume tell so much more than it was. His help on my resume was worth the cost of this event by itself. Told Lyn when I was leaving that he needed to have Barry bronzed, he is so much of an asset.

I have already put the annual HPA (Helicopter Pilots Anonymous National Meeting on my calendar for next year. 'Hello I am Rick.....'

I am glad to hear of all the positive feedback. I got a lot of such feed back about both the FAASTeam Seminar and Heli-Success. I hope that we can do the FAASTeam seminar again next year. Thanks to Rotorcraft Pro Media Network and Night Flight Concepts for being sponsors.

As Mike said even if you didn't register for the FAASTeam seminar you will get credit. If you don't have an account at FAASafety.gov just sign up using the same e-mail you used when you attended the seminar and credit will be given. If there are any problems feel free to let me know. JasonDykstra@yahoo.com .

Mike, I liked your umbrella concept. Easy to see and understand what was being discussed.

It was good to finaly meet many from here on VR. If anyone has feedback for what FAASTeam can do better or to support you and your operation in anyway feel free to let me know.

The FAAST event was way beyond what I ever got in my CFI training. All 3 talks addressed critical issues in flight training and should be part of a standard curriculum for CFIs. Really, there's no reason why every little school in the middle of nowhere should be coming up with their own idea of what CFIs need to know.

The only thing I'd say is that I'm looking forward to the time when Mike can get past having to explain the advantages of SBT over MBT and his vision for where SBT could take the industry, and he can spend a whole hour providing strategies for implementation.

Thanks again to Jason, Mike, and Randy.

The FAASTeam safety seminar great, I liked your umbrella concept Mike and learned quite a bit from Jason and Randy as well. The Heli-success seminar was great! It really focused me on how to move forward in my career and filled in a lot of the gaps in my education of how to do so. The resume help I got from Chris was worth it alone. What a great industry I'm in where people who are successful take time away from their job and family to help me be successful! Where else do you see that? It was worth every dime it took to get there and I think the networking I did will land me in a great job or even several jobs throughout my career. If you are trying to become a successful helicopter pilot and you do not attend this next year you will be doing yourself a disadvantage.

P.S. Thanks Lyn, Mike, Barry, Randy and everyone else for your time and advice.

I too am still processing the weekend.

Thank you again Mike. Thanks also for following up and continuing the conversation. I didn't get to mention that I was already including SBT elements for primary "pilots in training" without even really recognizing it. It proves that I may have intuitively felt it was missing. I would like to know how I might gain exposure to more ideas for scenarios. I do intend to contact Kurt as you suggested but I would love to hear about other sources.

I also appreciated the umbrella image and it reminds me of the "swiss cheese" concept of accident prevention. I also wanted to congratulate Janie F. on her drawings as a great way to use visual images to support the ideas and increase retention.

It was a very informative and encouraging event. I feel very focused and supported moving forward professionally for the next year. I have tremendous gratitude to you and Jason as well as Lyn, Randy, Janie, Barry, Jim, Chris, Heidi, Dean, and Mike.

Take care!

FlytheLVSky, incorporating scenarios into your training is great. I am currently working on more info and training for CFIs to become knowledgeable FITS Facilitators.

At the present, many entities are pulling at my shirt tail wanting input. I am excited about this as it is some CFIs from the larger schools like Bristow, Hillsboro, and Upper Limit!

I hope to train or help to train the industry, no small task. Many ideas in the works now with Lyn, Randy, DP from Heli-Ops, Curt from NAFA and others. I will try to keep everyone informed about all of this as soon as it is definite.

Best to All,

Mike

Agree with the previous posters. It was an outstanding event, well worth attending and valuable on a number of levels!

Lyn put together a great collection of speakers, as Dennis said some real icons of the industry. The topics were relevant and the seminars were informative, helpful, entertaining and well presented.

To be able to learn from these individuals, gain insight into different segments of the industry, safety techniques, ways to prepare yourself to achieve success, get ahead and eventually meet face to face with them was a real privilege.

The networking opportunities alone made it worthwhile. Great to finally meet in person many of the posters on this site who I have always respected and whose contributions help make it such a great resource. Its a great chance to meet and compare notes with peers, make contact and gain valuable info from those who are currently doing or have done the job you may be seeking and an opportunity to help those who are wondering what it takes to get where you are at.

Thanks again to Lyn and everyone that participated and made it possible!

As for the FAAST event, it was also very well done. Agree with Chris, looking forward to the point when it's less about introducing these concepts and more about implementing them.
